Lost my knife... again.

This one hurts. It was a Browning Presentation Lockback, made in Japan. I've had it for over 10 years. It served as my paddling knife, riding in the pocket of my life jacket. The previous paddling knife was a cheap Big 5 special, made in China. The way I lost both knives was the same, and I'm really kicking myself. When I practice eskimo rolls, I open the pocket to get my nose clips, and forget to zip it back up. You can guess the rest.

I know I should tether the knife somehow next time. That Browning was a nice knife, I'm sad to see it go. RIP, it is on the bottom of a lake.

Thats why God made submarines. Come on - put your thinkin' hat on - and go find that thing.

that sucks, ive lost favorite knives also so i feel your pain.

but if you looka at the bright side, you have a perfectly good reason to buy a new knife ;)

If we had a snorkel and mask, I would have searched for it.

I think for this kind of application, attach the knife to a float, or use a cheap knife you don't care about.

bingo...lately when weve taken the canoe out, ive brought along a stainless mora i bought awhile back.
not that i wanna lose that one either, but at least i wouldnt be out alotta $$$ if i did

I would have a Gerber with me for something like that. That's mainly the only reason I still have my Gerbers around. Abuse, break, toss, forget. :D

Just lost my Gerber Swagger work beater this week . I was so crushed  I went out and bought 4 other folders to make me feel better. :)

Yup, but even the cheaper ones catch your attention also. I realized one night that I hadn't seen a Spyderco Resiliance for several months, then found it digging through a BOB.

maybe you should try to find a cork handled Mora?

This. I know they make sunglasses for fishers that float if dropped in water, so I bet that someone makes knives that float.

Or tie a cork (or some other buoyant material) to your knife using the lanyard hole. Obviously some testing is called for before a "real world" scenario, and it wouldn't hurt to buy a knife dedicated for water sports so that you don't have to detach and reattach the floatation device repeatedly. (Tethering sounds good, too.)

I don't want to sound totally cavalier--I lost a knife this past Easter, and it's tough to part with such a longtime companion. Bright side, though: you've got a reason to get a new one! (I replaced my lost Kershaw Skyline with two of the same model in case this happens again. :p )

I have a gun lanyard that works great for attaching a nice knife to. I will canoe with a nice fixed blade often in a kydex sheath (attached to the lanyard on the belt).

Lately, though, I have been carrying an inexpensive sod buster in my zippered vest pocket.

I actually purchased a cheap Mossberg "big guy/little guy" combo at Big 5 sporting goods. I first lost the little guy, then the Browning, now the big guy is up to bat. It has a clip, so it's hooked into a D ring in my pocket. Should be good to go. I got the combo on sale, so it cost very little, and I'm not too attached to the knife. It's got full steel liners, so it's heavy.

Loosing your knife is very trouble sum. I lost a like new Emerson Super QCQ-8 a couple of months ago and it still is a thorn in my side.

I always get cautious around water when I carry a better knife. Last year a friend and I dredged around the end of a fishing pier about seven feet deep. We pulled up almost a dozen rusted blades, all were junkers to begin with, a couple flashlights and several rods and reels, amongst other crap, so they do go over a lot.glad you got a replacement blade.

Looks like you'll need a new knife (unless you want to go fishing with a magnet!) :( I always tether climbing and paddling knives, it's not much of an inconvenience at all. I use a carabiner and a length of climbing accesory cord. If you don't like that, boating shops sell various flotation devices, which can be attached, some even have LEDs.
