Lost my Mark 6 today because the snap came loose while I was unloading cargo from boat to pier. It had come loose a few times while I was getting in and out of the car and I constantly had to resnap the belt loop. Finally, this last time it worked its way off my belt and plop, right into the East River.

I think I'm gonna have to weld the snap down on my other fixed blade Reeves.

Careful with your knives and sheaths, guys.

My condolences. How deep is the area? Have you tried one of those super strength magnets? I'm sure there is a bunch of stuff in the East River for a magnet to stick to, but it might be worth a try. I've seen my father recover some fishing rods from some deep water before with a homemade drag tool, but I doubt that method would work on a knife. Plus you might hook a wiseguy in cement overshoes. ;)

I agree,if you know just where you droped it in one of those real strong earth magnets should be able to retrieve it.
Someone on CPF was selling those magnets a while back. They claimed that 2 of them sticking together would hurt you if not carefull. It would for sure be worth a try.

It's the East River that runs between Manhattan and Brooklyn. It's a deep water port so we're talking hundreds of feet. I'm content to leave it to rest and just get another.

Bummer - sorry to hear about this happening to you. Thanks for the head's up.

Stuff like this can also happen with kydex. I had on a neck knife and just got back from a long distance car trip and started to unload the back of the car. Reaching in, I'm dragging all sorts of stuff out, while my chest must have been rubbing on the bottom of the SUV car interior. At some point, I heard Praaannnnggg! and wondered, wtfwt? Looked down and saw my beautiful neck knife having had banged on the concrete beneath me. This was a formerly mint knife that I prized enough to have with me on that trip! That sucked big time.

Guys,
Thanks for all the condolences...
The Knife retention strap works fine on that sheath, it's the belt loop snap the comes undone...
The real loss is the stash of Vicodin ES that was in the handle.
I have six "one piece" knives and am looking for ways to securing the belt loop permanently.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Not the Vicodin ES!!

Just put some GOOP brand sealer on the open snaps and then snap them shut and the glue bond should be fairly strong but still removable (with some difficulty) if you ever wanted the snaps operational again. For a permanent fix do the same thing but use JB Weld instead.

I am VERY sorry to hear of your loss!!! :( I understand the emptiness you must feel. I am sure you miss the knife too ;) If only the Vs were saved, you could ease your pain
