Lost my William Henry. Crap.

Fortunately it wasn't one of the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ carbon fiber and ruby jobs, just a common cocobolo scale folder from their global series. Dad gave it to me and I've been carrying it on and off the last several years. All hope is not lost, it might turn up in the floorboard of a car or tucked into a couch cushion or something, but for right now, it's totally gone- must have slipped out of my pocket somewhere. :(

Trying to figure out what I want to replace it. I have several Kershaws that I wear with jeans, but since I'm in chinos or slacks at the office most of the time, something in a sleeker package would be nice to have, plus don't want to scare my officemates with BIG TACTICAL LOOKING KNIFE. Subtle is good.

Handled a Sebenza a couple days ago, but it didn't speak to me. My budget wouldn't stand up to that anyway.

What are you guys carrying in the "gentleman folder" category?

This is my biggest fear of carrying my William Henry.

Not just the $$$ factor but the 'where the hell am I going to get another one from' factor.

I am very sorry to hear that you lost your WH, especially since your dad gave it to you. That pretty much puts it in the irreplaceable category.
I'd try to get another of the exact same knife if I were in your shoes. I'd scrap the $$ together somehow (hopefully).
If that isn't possible, what price range are you looking at?

I haven't seen one like my MIA one, ever. I was told once here that it was from their international line, since the logo was a WH with a globe around it. Dad dabbled in becoming a knife dealer for a few years when he first retired, so I have lots of knives from him. Hate to be so blase about misplacing a probably $150 knife, but I'm not out a $1200 damascus piece of art, just a nice folder that was a good friend for a few years. Still hoping I'll find it somewhere- it might turn up.

Budget? Eh, $100-150?

The G-10 Spyderco Dragonfly is a nice little package that is very sheeple friendly.

Mcusta also makes a very nice line "gentleman type" knives

A. G. Russell Acies

Boker Ecskeibur (or something spelled like that)

Bradley Alias.

I'd hold out for the new Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air--great dressy little package with a terrific blade and steel.

Oh, and I carry my WH as a work EDC--I have a hard time thinking a Mnandi would be any better, but that doesn't mean I don't want one.

For a somewhat less expensive knife, but still small and opens easily with one hand:
Spyderco Chaparral
Benchmade Sequel - but this may a bit large, with a 2.9" blade.

A more "gentleman's" folder would be the:
Spyderco Michael Walker in CF (out of print)
Mcusta Take
Moki - take your pick
Fallkniven FH9BH

The Fallkniven P3 looks a bit like the photo in your post. It has a 3" blade. I picked one up in Micarta for less than $100 about 6 months ago, with a VG10 blade. The ones in cocobolo and 3G steel cost more, but you may still be able to find the VG10 black Micarta version at a good price. Some of the knives came out with a thumb stud, but some were made with a nail nick, for European sales. If you want one with a thumb stud, be sure to check the listing carefully. Just do a search for the Fallkniven P3 and you are sure to find it.
Fit and finish is very good on these knives, and lockup and opening are slick. Highly recommended.
The knives could be made by Moki for fallkniven, and I know that Moki made a number of the less expensive WH models.

Good call on the Fallkniven P3; I'll look around for those. The design looks near-identical. I don't know how often this happens in the world of production knives, but it wouldn't surprise me much if those two knives came out of the same plant, if not the same assembly line.

The thing I thought was way cool about the WH was the ball-bearing on the liner lock that matched a detent in the blade. That kept it closed and the rolling action made for a super slick opening. If the Fallkniven has anything similar, my guess would be that they come from the same place, and what brand the thing winds up being just depends on what's printed on the blade.

Pretty close match.

Thanks for the recommendations so far- love this forum, haven't been by in a while.

I would Probably just buy another one. If your looking for options, Ive been wanting a smallish dress knife and checking out the benchmade shoki, kershaw speedform2, boker haddock.

I got my Micarta P1 VG10 thumbstud model from Bladematrix. They have them in cocobolo and in yellow bone (at a reduced price), a style that is now discontinued. Prices are all over the place on the Fallkniven Ps. It is a good knife, with a slick action and perfect lockup. I believe that Moki makes the Spire - you can see this on their Japan website.
The Micarta P1 is highly recommended. I would bet the 3g steel models are the same high quality, but I wanted the less expensive model and I like VG10. Look around carefully, if you want this one, since the prices are all over the place.
If you want the one-hand opener with a thumb stud, you may want to email to ask, before buying - if this is unclear on a website.

Update- guess what mom found in her couch while digging for the remote today. I've torn my house apart, searched every car we have high and low, looked hard in several pieces of furniture that we've donated to charity, etc.- and it was with my folks the whole time. I'm thrilled- going to get it this weekend when I pick up my kids, who have been visiting up there for the last week.
