Lost package with USPS. Is there anything I can do?

The title says it all. I made a kinda special knife for some friends. I have been tinkering on it for a year. It was sorta expensive with damasteel and koa. I sent it priority mail about 4 hours downstate NY but I guess it was Delivered in PA. Is there anything I can do?
 
File a lost package claim online and wait for an email, if nothing, file for your $50 insurance.

Can be done online with your USPS account.

If you don't have an account you should make one.
 
These things seem to happen more often lately. The USPS often shows tracking that implies it was delivered to the wrong city. Then it has to go back to where it was sent from and sent to the right place again. Unfortunately, this can take some time. Filing a lost parcel claim as soon as possible expedites the package being located sitting somewhere in a Pennsylvania post office and having it sent on to the right place.

I sent a package to Richmond, VA from Norfolk, VA last December. less than 100 miles. All mail from Norfolk goes to Richmond to be processed anyway. The tracking showed the package was in Seattle, Washington. Then it was in Atlanta, GA. four weeks later it showed up back in Richmond.
 
Did you get signature confirmation required with the usps package? Always get signature confirmation.
if You have a high value item, always use a private carrier like ups or FedEx
Not much you can do at this point except make the online inquiry claim.
 
I had a package go from Wisconsin to Puerto Rico and then to me in CT...LOL. USPS is messed up sometimes!
 
In Canada now the Post office is not doing signatures due to the rona.

Are they still doing them in USA ?

amazon will email you a photo of the house and the package sitting on the step, but never ever ring a doorbell.

I suppose they assume everyone has a cellphone with email in their pocket.


For handmade non mass market retail items, it can be really hard to prove price/value.
Keep screenshots of your ad and price paid by customer.

lol that's an understatement!
 
Just got it back. It fortunately got delivered to a business and then came back. On it's way back the postage came off and then they sent it to me with a bill. Fortunately the people at my local post office were chill and I didn't have to pay.

Maybe I will post a picture of this one. It seems kinda lucky at this point.

Very lucky, I've lost over $500 with USPS. The organization is so big and everybody keeps passing the responsibility for taking care of you that they can't help you like a private company can.

The customer said that they weren't worried about the $9 that USPS said they might give me credit for. They wanted to go with UPS and they got it the next day. Well the day after the next day because I got hit in my car on my way to the UPS store. I am sorta wondering if this thing is cursed.
