i lost my RC3 while on a search and rescue mission. we had a terrible winter storm blow in with zero visibility and winds over 100km/hr. my brother got stranded in the storm and me and another guy on the fire dept went to rescue him. to make a long story short we were out for 4.5 hrs had 3 trucks stuck and had to get a tractor to get us out.drifts covered the trucks in a matter of minutes. somewhere in the process i lost my RC3,im glad everyone was ok but im pretty bummed out to lose my daily sidekick in life. im in the middle of a career change so money is a little tight, so i made my own temporary replacement. roughly the same size but with cocobolo handles. what do you think?its the bottom one

It's good to hear everyone came out of that ordeal safely, most everything else can be replaced.
I hear you on the financial issue...I guess your replacements will make due for now. Good luck with your career change.

Glad everyone made it out safely. Objects can be replaced, people are a lot harder. Your temporary replacement seems nice enough. What is the blade steel?

You sure deserve a new RC-3 now, but your replacement looks very good too. Congratulations for skills and your job.

Bummer on the RC3. I am curious, how was the RC3 being carried when it was lost, cord/Tek/aftermarket sheath? Did the knife work free or did the fasteners fail?

Excellent question, I'd like to know too.

Thanks,

Al

the handle is cocobolo, but the light part is the sapwood and the dark part is heartwood. i was carrying it in my left front pocket with the pocket clip. i believe it got caught and pulled out of my pocket when we were trying to shovel one of the trucks out. i would never have felt it or heard it in that wind. iwas going to go look for it but we just had another foot of snow and they plowed the area we were in so its a lost cause.oh the blade steel on my replacement is 1095.

If you end up finding that RC3 in the spring, be sure to post some pics of it!

Are you sure the knife didn't BREAK??? as you were pushing against a truck to get it out of the ditch, you pressed against the knife so hard, it BROKE in half without you realizing it....one piece fell this way and the other fell that way??

If the knife hadn't BROKE in half you would still have it, but instead it BROKE, while you were trying to do your job.....

Such a BREAK, may be covered by WARRANTY....just saying......:D

Knife in Question is missing ESEE3, Item must be returned to have warranty honored
:D LOL

I think someone would want to see the peices of the broken knife..

But to be constructive, I'll yell out-

LANYARD

LANYARD!

for those who front pocket w/boot clip do this.......
Take a piece of paracord your color choice....on one end crimp on Alligator clip your size choice....then tie other end of paracord to ESEE sheath. turn Front pocket inside out ,using alligator clip to grasp pants pocket....tuck pocket back in pants...sheath stay in pocket.... back up plan to those who use boot clip option...
