The Caly3 I wanted here and I posted about here and again here is now nowhere to be found. I've never owned a lot of Spydercos, in fact, this one was the only one that wasn't traded or sold away. It was gifted to my as my first ever Father's Day present (I have an 11-month old daughter). It's my favorite knife for the obvious sentimental reasons. My wife gave it to me and it was really sweet of her to indulge this little bit crazy knife thing I have. It was the nicest knife I've ever owned. (I personally don't own anything over $60.)

I sent the knife in to Spyderco to fix a tiny amount of blade play. That was on the 15th. It should've gotten there on the 18th. But here's the tracking information as of today:

It left City of Industry and just never got to Golden, Colorado. It just disappeared on the way. That's the best USPS can tell me.

I should've never sent it out. What I wouldn't give to have my Caly3 with the blade play back...

My wife says it's ok, "it's just things." But it's really not ok. It really wasn't just another knife.

That sucks man. The post office has let me down a couple times.. I'd keep calling and beating peoples ears off.. that's just me though.

Man I feel your pain, I recently shipped my PS3 to an address I was moving to and I still haven't received it. Dont give up hope, apparently if they don't return to sender it goes to their facility in Atlanta. I made a ton of calls, register a case ID with them. Contact Spyderco and ask them what USPS branch they get their packages from.

Contact that branch and let them know about the problem. Call all the branches in City of Industry and see if you get any leads. If not its still better to keep them notified.

Once your done, call the 1800-ASK-USPS and give them a description of ur package.

I'm patiently waiting to get a call from them about my PS3, although part of me feels like its gone. Don't lose hope it might just be there for you :)...

I sent a Postal Money Order from here to a town in Georgia by Priority Mail once. The tracking showed it being accepted here, departing for the sort facility in Wichita, arriving there, being processed and departing, then nothing for almost a month. It finally arrived after 28 days. No intermediate scans, no explanations, it just stayed on that truck for a month.

Don't give up hope just yet.

Sorry to hear about this. UPS and USPS messed up my shipments in the past. Did you buy insurance?

Like Jack said, don't give up hope yet. It may be lost, but then again it may have arrived in Golden and just not scanned properly.

+1
I wasn't clear when I said messed-up. Couple times USPS tracking was showing that I received the package, but I received it about a week later. UPS lost my Lum, than found and supposed to deliver, but instead of this shipped it back to a dealer.

Thanks all for the advice. I have contacted USPS and they assigned an employee from my local post office (Daisy in Alhambra) to call me and investigate. She did say that because it was a small package, it might have simply fallen into the wrong bin and went somewhere it wasn't supposed to go, and there's still hope it will show up somewhere and find its way back.

But everyday, when I turn on the computer, I check the tracking status. And so far, it's just been a really bad way to start each day.

dude, what a bummer. I've always wanted a caly, and I get very sentimental with objects too, I don't think it's dumb. It's a way of making the past more tangible than a memory alone, like photos.

It's nearly a month now and the tracking information still hasn't been updated. The local USPS rep assigned to the case says it's lost. :grumpy:

Nothing left now but to buy another one.

Before I pull the trigger on a replacement, does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative model? I love(d) the Caly3, but I'm willing to consider other models. I carried it as a light, upscale EDC (can flex into dress-up occasions). Here are some other models I considered:

Sage 1 - I liked the Caly3 more than the Sage 1 because the Caly3 was slimmer and seemed more refined.
Caly 3.5 - I think the Caly 3.5 is just ever so slightly too big for EDC (I like between 3" and 3.25").
Delica - Just not upscale enough.
PM2 - Like the Delica, just not dressy/upscale enough. Also a tad too big.

Thanks to everyone for the much appreciated consolation.

As stated above, based on the knives you got in mind, a Caly 3 or Sage 1. The Sage is easier to close one handed albeit a little fatter than the Caly, give it a shot Taichung won't disappoint you

I really enjoy the Caly 3.5 as an EDC, but if it is too long, you can check out the Native 5.

I like the look of the flat ground much better than the previous Natives, but, for me, a Spyderco needs a thumb ramp.

I actually used to own a Sage 1, and indeed it's an incredibly well-made knife. Aside from the difference in thickness, when compared tothe Caly3, I just like the look of a back-lock without bushings. The bushings on the Sage 1 are particularly thick, which functionally is desirable. But aesthetically, the Caly3 looks cleaner to me because it doesn't have the gaps between the blade and handles caused by the bushings.

Thanks for the recommendations! I guess it's a second Caly3 for me. And maybe I will put my name on with, along with contact info, just in case I have to hand it over to a shipping company...

I would say pick up another Caly 3.
The Caly 3.5 really isn't all that much bigger than the Caly 3, It's a larger blade still in a very small package. I think they did very well by doing that with the Caly series.

Also, if you don't mind a little smaller blade length than the Caly 3, I'd say check out the Spyderco Chaparral. Carbon Fiber, Small, Thin, light, back lock, s30v, low ride clip, etc. Excellent little blade.

Man that is such a bummer i lost my stretch cf a while back but I was able to replace it. I have a caly 3 in zdp thats about to be bumped by a 3.5 in zdp. I can send you some pics if you want to adopt mine.

G10/VG10 Caly3 is one of my favorite knives, certainly in the top five. I bought it on the first day, when it became available and carried every day it for several years. I used it often for lunch cut apples, always wished that blade would be a little longer. So when Caly3.5 became available I bought right away and replaced Caly3 with Caly3.5. I love this knife. It has the same ergos as Caly3, the same blade geometry, almost the same weight and same size closed, but longer blade. Terrific design.
