It appears that I lost one of my Camillus Talonite Talon knives today. I took it deer hunting; but it didn't accompany me home. I'll look for it tomorrow.

Makes me think... What colors / features would you include in a sheath to help make it easy to find?

That sucks. Sorry about your Talon bro :grumpy:

I'd attach pink or neon green to the sheath and lanyard hole for visibility. Yes, I know: pink is for sissies, but it's a bright color that rarely occurs in nature, thus it's easy to spot. I stay away from red, yellow, and orange since they mix in with the fall leaves, and white seems to blend in with lighter colored sticks when it has dirt on it from use.

Of course, if you can find the obnoxiously-colored neon yellow or glow-in-the-dark neon green, the better. If you don't want the whole world to see your un-losable knife, just slip a jacket over it.

If it's an outdoor blade(as apposed to a tactical one) I use blaze orange 550 with the reflective tracer in it. Makes it very easy to see

feel your pain...
if you looking for replacement, check the Exchange, ive seen Talon with custom scales there.

Sorry to hear about your Talon.
I have one and never liked the way the kydex sheath fit. It isn’t very tight.
Do you think it came out of the sheath or did you just leave it somewhere?

As far as lanyards go, white is actually the easiest color to see to see. (Don’t believe me? Throw a handful of different color snippets of paracord out on the ground and tell me which one catches your eye first) Of course, snow changes the equation. However, a braided mix of white and some shocking neon color is a good bet. I use a white glow in the dark strand in my lanyards which helps at night of course. GITD paracord is the absolutely the best of any GITD product I’ve used. Maybe it is because of the greater surface area or something, all those fibers, I don’t know. It glows really long and bright though.

One good thing about talonite, if you find it, there won’t be any corrosion on the blade at all! That is truly some amazing stuff.

I lost my old faithful hunting knife a few years back when I jumped out of the truck after a bird...it stinks.

Found it today! :-)

I will be more careful in the future and I'm seriously thinking about having a custom kydex sheath made for it as well as getting some neon / GITD paracord to attach to it. I may also put a bit of reflective tape on the sheath.

I should probably also give in someday and buy a nice big backpack to stuff everything into (knife, calls, scents, extra gloves / clothes, safety harness, cell phone, etc.).

Thanks for all your thoughts!

Just to follow up... What are your recommended sources for custom a sheath / paracord suppliers?

Glad you found your knife!
If you can even find one, that is one knife that is almost irreplaceable, at today’s prices anyway.
You said 'I lost one of my Talons', did you have two? In to precious metals eh?!! Who needs gold? I've got Talonite!

On/Scene Tactical has Talon sheaths. I don’t think you will have to send your knife in to him, he has these pre-made, or has the actual knife to mold from.

I have two sheaths from this maker and they are very well made and lock the knives extremely tight.

I don’t have one for my Talon from this maker, but I may break down and buy one before lose mine.

Of course there is also the reflective white safety tape. The really good stuff is pricey but you get what you pay for....
I have it on my packs and helmet for nighttime bicycle riding. I am lit up like a Christmas tree when any light hits me.

Thanks for the help. In answer to your question / astute observation... Yes. I have two of the Camilus Talons in Talonite. Don't like the sheaths; but like everything else about the knife. I also have a Camilus EDC Cuda folder in Talonite and two Simonich custom originals. One is in talonite and is slightly smaller with same design - don't remember the name with two sheaths Rob had ordered from Eric "Normark" at On scene. They fit great and are extremely nice and I don't remember the metal on the other one; but it was custom made by Rob with mammoth ivory handle slabs and has a leather sheath.

I also have the actual knife which is on the home page of Trace Rinaldi http://www.thrblades.com/ which I believe was heat treated by Rob (I'd have to look back through my notes; but believe that is correct).

I really like both their work and it is kind of neat to have that actual knife (which I had long thought was beautiful; but probably never would be available and financially unfeasible if it did).

Oh well... Long way of saying, "Yes. I have two talons." :)

Oh yeah... I have sent Eric an email asking if he did sheaths in orange, pink, or any neon colors. :)
