Lots 'O Pop-Ups??

I have pop-up blockers set on my laptop as well as Chrome & I don't get pop-ups when I browse the web.

Except Bladeforums -- in the last couple of days, I get massive amounts of pop-ups on each page. In fact, I cannot even click on a link to view a thread without a separate window opening up as if I selected an advertisement. It's getting quite frustrating as sometimes almost 25% of my Bladeforums screen is filled with ads & I cannot "read around" them.

Again, this only happens on when I am on the Bladeforums site. Is there anyone with some insight as to what is happening or how I can eliminate these intrusive advertisements?

Thank you in advance,

Joe

Yours seems to be the only report of this. Lets see if any tech people have suggestions of how to track down and destroy malware.

Adblock won't help if there is some sort of malware living on his computer. Run your AV software and MalwareBytes as suggested. Very strange that it only happens here. I'd guess there is something else going on. There are no pop ups here to be had, you've got a paid membership so that kinda takes the ads out of the picture.

I tried a lot of things and I think it was tied to Chrome. Once I deleted that browser and started using Firefox, I never had a problem. I also tried IE for kicks and, again, no problems.

Odd that it was only tied/related to Chrome & only with Bladeforums. Strange indeed ...

Thank you, everyone, for your assistance!

I just grabbed a WinXP laptop to do some work, and when i opened Chrome there were several pop-up ads all over the place. Nt on this site, but on some of the work related sites I use. I closed it and used an alternate browser Firefox and everything is fine. Turns out that Chrome was an older version that needed several versions to be caught up.

Interesting. Chrome is what I have been using for a while. I recently installed it on this laptop, so it is a current version. (whew!)

Haven't seen a pop-up in years, using IE, Chrome or Firefox, and running pop-up blockers and some form of Ad-blocker for each. As mentioned, I'd bet some malware is at play. A friend of mine had horrible problems with pop-ups some years ago, and I suspect it had much to do with not keeping his computer up-to-date (Windows).

I've been keeping each of my browsers up-to-date as well (Chrome does this automatically, in the background) and, at least for me, the usual 'Windows Update' every month or so will automatically download and run the 'malicious software removal tool'. All of this in tandem seems to have been enough to keep my laptops running with no issues, over the last 4-5 years at least (spanning WinXP through Win7).
