There have been a lot of threads lately from new makers asking about how to set up their shop, what they need to put in it, etc etc.
My shop is by no means a thing of beauty, but for my situation being a family man with a regular job on a small piece of property who has to set up in the garage, it works very well. I'm sure it will evolve as time goes on, but one thing I know for sure is that my wife's car will never be in here again!
My shop could be a little more organized but I have to share space with lots of family items, so it can be hard. Sometimes it's a bit dusty and disheveled in there, but hey I actually work in it so what do you expect!
It's not perfect, but maybe some of the newer guys who are thinking about their setup will be able to get some ideas from it. I learned very quickly that it's good to group task areas and the tools required for the tasks together to minimize walking back and forth. Even in a small space you can find yourself exhausted from pacing back and forth all day to retrieve things from the other side of the shop! Also, you can never have too many outlets!! You will always need another place to plug something in so think about that if you are doing any additional wiring.
Anyway, here is a look at how mine sits right now:
Drill presses
Grinding area
Tool chest and all hand sanding supplies
Blasting cabinet/Chop saw
Bandsaw and mill
Handle gluing/blade etching/kydex area
