There have been a lot of threads lately from new makers asking about how to set up their shop, what they need to put in it, etc etc.
My shop is by no means a thing of beauty, but for my situation being a family man with a regular job on a small piece of property who has to set up in the garage, it works very well. I'm sure it will evolve as time goes on, but one thing I know for sure is that my wife's car will never be in here again!:D My shop could be a little more organized but I have to share space with lots of family items, so it can be hard. Sometimes it's a bit dusty and disheveled in there, but hey I actually work in it so what do you expect!:)

It's not perfect, but maybe some of the newer guys who are thinking about their setup will be able to get some ideas from it. I learned very quickly that it's good to group task areas and the tools required for the tasks together to minimize walking back and forth. Even in a small space you can find yourself exhausted from pacing back and forth all day to retrieve things from the other side of the shop! Also, you can never have too many outlets!! You will always need another place to plug something in so think about that if you are doing any additional wiring.

Anyway, here is a look at how mine sits right now:

Whoa, my given name is Jonathan. This makes three Jonathan's posting in a row, except for Mitchell's extra "h":D

Wolffy, why do you think I took the pictures from a ways back. You don't want to see the closeups buddy!! There is wonderful coating of dust on everything. It's time for me to fire up the compressor and blow some of this stuff outside, it's been a while.

Mitchell, it's not a bad little cabinet, huh? Considering it comes with ceramic nozzles instead of the pot metal ones on most economy cabinets I think this one was a pretty good deal.

Sweet Jon,

Looks like the Taj Mahal to me! When did you get that blasting cabinet?

Taj Mahal.......someday maybe, when we get out of the Bay Area and find a place with enough room to build a proper shop!

I got the cabinet a while ago, just now starting to use it on some blades and handles. You'll be seeing some of the stuff soon. I have glass in it right now, but I think I'm going to add some silica carbide to the mix so it will be a touch more aggressive. The glass leaves a very fine finish.

I really want one. I also saw some tumbled blades last weekend that were cool. And, I saw some mustard etched blades. I don't think that will work with the stainless we use, but it was a nice, safe etch.

Damn, somone beat me to it. I was going to say something about the maiden poster. haha. I saw them on their "Somewhere back in time" tour. Best concert ever. I hope I'm still pelting around like that when I'm 50+

Thanks for the shop tour. You have some nice gear.

Chris, Eddie is everywhere in my house!! Been a fan for nearly 30 years.

Here's what I used to sketch years ago before I started drawing knife designs. The man!
