I have some of the "storm" whistles and they are great. I want to buy a few more so I thought I'd check in with the experts. Anything louder (cooler) out there?

Fox 40 and Acme are likely the best, loudest whistles made.

How do they compare with the "storm" model? I have to plug my ears when I blow it full blast.

I have lots of whistles, the loudest ones in my experience are the Storm, which has a pea, and the ACME Tornado 2000 and Fox 40, which are three cavity pealess whistles.

There is a difference between a pea whistle and a pealess whistle, in general the pea whistles talk better and are easier to blow, the pealess are louder but not so good if you want to blow gentle and not so loud. The Storm is special because the large chamber around the whistle itself helps, it is probably the loudest pea whistle but maybe a bit large to carry around in your keychain.

You may want to check my thread on whistles:

You may also do a search on whistles and find more threads.

I have no experience with the storm whistles. From my own experience, and what I've read, Acme and Fox 40 get the highest ratings overall.
I guess I'll have to keep my eye out for a Storm so I can compare it to what I have.

Ok, I tried out the Acme, the Fox 40, the smaller Fox, the micro marine and the Storm. Storm is way loudest with a "soft" blow followed closely by the Acme. Some disagreement on the loudest of the whistles when blown at full force from 500 m. in a wooded area. Younger folks picked the Fox40, olders the Storm. During an actual rainstorm the STORM also was the best at 500m to all ears, somewhat surprising several of us given the higher pitch of the FOX whistles. Storm is least likely to be on the keychain. The micro marines are the tops in cool factor even though I only have black.

FWIW, no actual scientific devices used i this test.
