Does anyone have any info on sword manufacturer "Louis F. Stilz and Bro.? They were out of Philadelphia. My father has a sword that was made by them and I would like to find out a little bit about it. I believe it was made in the mid to late 1800.

Thanks

They were in Philly from 1885-1936 and are known mostly for Knights of Malta regalia. (Hamilton, Marino, Kaplan) but I have not found anything else on them. I believe them to be uncommon. I have only seen one in my reference books. I have just one in my collection (KOM)

Welcome aboard. The world of the internet has grown a lot since 2002. From a list of corporation charters from 1910

LOUIS E. STILZ & BRO. COMPANY—Philadelphia, January 12, 1910. Capital, $15,000. The manufacture and sale of uniforms, regalia, costumes, armor, paraphernalia, flags, banners, badges, jewels and such other merchandise and supplies as is used by military, naval, theatrical, and fraternal organizations and societies, or the members thereof.

The latest "bible" by Hamilton, Kaplan and Marino s a good book but not at all inclusive of information that can be found.

For instance a banner made for the Patriotic Sons of America

Without a picture of what the original poster was posting of, it could have been for any number of fraternities. Many such companies were mostly resellers marking goods to their shop.
