This is a firesteel.com "armageddon" sized rod - 3/8"*4"

The handle is a little unusual - my sister took a tour of the Louisville Slugger Factory. She didn't bring me a bat, but did bring me this nub. This is the little end that gets thrown away when they are done working the bat on the lathe.

I drilled it slightly undersize and epoxied the steel in place. This is ash, I sanded and carved it slightly, then stained it and sealed with bees wax. Then wrapped it with a bit of jute cord. Mainly for looks, but could also be used for tinder.

This will mainly be used at home as it is a bit bulky for the trail. I did it mostly to show my wife that I eventually find uses for all the odds and ends I accumulate...

I did not treat the wrap yet Ethan, but I may. If it starts to fray too much I probably will do so. The 3/8" size is certainly big, but the sparks you get certainly make it worth a few more grams of weight.

If any of you get the chance to go the Louisville Slugger Museum/Factory, make sure you do it. It's a pretty neat place. I took my 3 boys there a few years ago. They have a bunch of bats that were used by the old greats as well as the stars of today. You'd be amazed at how the bats have changed over the years. It was fun and a good learning experience for those who are fans of baseball.
