Love a Spyderedge over Plain? Why?

If you prefer a serrated/"Spyderedge" over a plain edge, why? I'm just looking for actual user feedback. I had a fully serrated Police model while in the Marines several years ago. It was a great field knife that served me very well many times in all weather conditions..wish I'd held onto it for sentimental value, but over the years, I have come to prefer the plain edge blade for ease of maintenence, and re sharpening. What about others here?

I prefer a PE on my EDC. That said my current work EDC is a Blue Handled 93mm Rescue. At work my knife sees use mostly opening boxes of medical equipment. While a Medic with the 101st Airborne my main EDC in the field was a SE Spyderco Remote Release. It was hooked to the right strap of my LBV so I could grab it in a hurry. Main use it saw was cutting paracord and sling-load lines. I prefer a PE but a SE is a great edge for certain jobs.

For me, it depends....:) I have typically been a PE person because for the most part, a plain edge has more utility for the things that I do. My first experience with full SE types was a Rescue 93mm, and compared to other serrations, this was pretty wild. I have since acquired a Delica 4/SE and planning to acquire an E4 with full SE, but again, they will be purchased with very specific uses in mind, not the everyday things that I do. I still find a PE blade to be more functional. I've never been a big of combo edges, and recently acquired a Delica 4 (I actually own 4 Delica 4's:) ) just to see if my attitude had changed on combo edges. My conclusion has been that on a 3 inch blade, there's not enough of either to really do everything, but on some like the Endura 3 or 4, the combo edge is actually quite useful.

Just some thoughts - gord

I prefer the Spyderedge. Just find it more useful on a wider variety of things, day to day.

Spyderedge cuts rope, blisterpaks, tyvek, thick cardboard...
and food, too

IMHO SE cuts more efficiently and stays sharper longer than PE. PE is very much the fashion now a days, but SE has been proven by Spyderco to cut better, longer. Check their site for more info. I've never once wished I had a PE, but some PE guys here will tell you that they wished they'd had a SE on certain occasions. SE is easier for me to sharpen on a Sharpmaker than a PE believe it or not.
Cheers,
Rob

I have the best of both worlds. I have a big C-44 Spyderco Dyad ( Spyderco's double bladed knife with one SE and one PE blade). That has been my EDC for over a year and a half now. I use the fully serrated blade even just a bit more than I do the plain edged blade. Like the one brother says I am finding more and more cutting jobs that are done in a superior fashion over the plain edged blades.

I think serrated blades get a bum rap. Now I will say that not all serrations are created equal. The ones on Cold Steel knives are about useless to me. But the serration patterns that Spyderco and Benchmade make are great.
