I've noticed a spike in threads about dissatisfaction with this knife. By coincedence, it had already been workin its way back into my pocket more and more, so i was ready to stick up for it. i'm not a fan of striders, i wouldn't have bought this knife myself (traded for it) and these days it's not only my go-to hard use folder, it actually prevents my purchase of comparable or "better" knives in the same category. they get the old "eh, nothin my 889 can't handle that this can."

in closing, mine locks up solid, takes a great edge with ease, and has a little bit of chop on reserve. what's not to like?

amen brother, had one and traded it {stupid} now i've got another one and to quote a friend "they'll bury me with this knife"

Thanks for cluing me in on this model.

I am looking for some sort of folder. I have been looking around and just bid on one of these. I will have to watch it.

Magnum22...
I am always happy to see someone else start a thread on the 889SBMF.
It took me months before I decided to buy one. Wasn't long afterwards for me to wonder..."what the hell did I wait for???".

The 889SBMF is my favorite EDC folder and a tank.

Good luck Hard-H20 on your bidding :)

The ONLY thing that I found slightly disfavorable on the 889SBMF was the checkering on the handle/scales.
Really a cheese grater on the back of the hand when digging in your pocket for change or whatever.
I swapped it out with a 882 frame.

The 889 seems to be one of those 'luv em' or 'hate em' knives. I love mine although I'm debating doing a Goose conversion (putting my 889 blade in an 882 handle).

I have to say I have been very pleased with my 889 as well; Lockup is vault-like, and steel is adequate for most EDC chores.

Have stated before that while I would not buy an 889 without trying it, the ones with good lock-up are good pieces of cutlery, IMO.

I just purchased my 889 sbmf from SMKW today. I got it in Coyote brown. When I picked this knife up I knew I had to have it, I purchased it without a second thought !

good choice, coal digger. i just touched up the edge on mine with the lansky crock stick. match made in heaven, they are.

that's all i can offer you at the moment, messersmith. i'll take some exclusively 889 glam shots later.

something should be said that the 889 is one of the only knives i have that i've never glam photo'd. all business!

Nice collection there Magnum. I particularly like the OD 889 and the German Army SAK.
