Simplistic, innovative and ergonomic. Anytime I need to fit a hawk or axe handle or do fine whittling these get pulled out of the kit. The thin edge makes short work of excess material. I only own the onyx versions at the moment and its a great steel that loves my strop. The olive wood is a #8 and the plain beech is a #10. Any Opinel lovers hanging in the forums?

I went to the stainless Opinel's years ago and never looked back. The 12C27 they use is good stuff.

Thanks guys. I will check out those links. Are there any companies that will hand inspect an Opinel before shipping it to insure a nice grain pattern or other features? I wonder, some of the exotics are beautiful!

I buy most of mine off the bay and the pictures that are posted are a lot of help. The olivewood ones can be plain or very colorful so you need to see a picture.

Some of my pointy ones.

I'm definitely grabbing a slim asap. Do all the slim models come with the high polished blades? Got to be a magnificent fishing knife! Except for the little moisture expansion issue, buts it no deal breaker for me!

No pics, but I love the opies as well, keep a carbon 8 in my lunch pail for fruit cutting, patina is fun! Got a few stainless too, two 8's, an olivwiod 6, and a bubinga slim 8

....and since these were photographed, I have added a #8 in bubinga wood, my current favorite. (Top to bottom: #9 carbon, #8 garden in stainless, and #6 in carbon; the bubinga model is stainless also.)

Love the custom contouring on those, gives me some ideas

Thanks! Just try and keep the same basic shape with just a little more cut in at the bottom and try to keep flat and even. I also sheen finish with fine emery paper the back of the lock ring. The stain is Minwax Red Mahogany.

I'm going to have to do another #8 Garden like that AreBeeBee. I gifted the first one I did! Well done on all!

No. Given the prices of most Opis, what's the, um, point? Ya pays yer money, and ya gets what they send ya. But in truth, they're fine -- and refinishing is fun if for some reason you don't like the grain pattern. (Which are not strong anyway.)

Opis are users, knives for mods, knives to kick around (esp. in stainless), knives for the fiddlers and tweaker among us. This is not a high-end item.

If you live in a humid climate and/or wet the knife regularly, the wood at the joint swells and can bind the blade, opening and closing. Most dry the wood in the sun or an oven at about 150° F. Then they impregnate the grain end with vaseline or mineral oil.

I love my #10 carbone.
But if it was in my heart ...I'd be ...kind of....dead:D:eek:

Cody you get meako browny points for a great if not a little disturbing thread title.

Thanks, not sure what brought about that title though. Something I ate maybe lol

Heartburn then?
I'm digging those thin pointy "effile"? Opinels -does that mean fillet?
