Holy crap, I'm in L-U-V. I got in one of Tooj's Kukris yesterday, and since today was a yard work day, I took it for a spin.
I had to cut up some downed limbs, including some 4-5" pecan limbs. Oh Emm Jee... giant wood chips flying everywhere!
Great bite with the factory edge and a huge freakin' sweet spot.

I made short work of the limbs. The Cutlass is great, but the Kukri ups the ante.
Here are some crappy phone pics.

Very nice, and you delivered on the write up! Even better. Now... if there was only a KA-BAR Whiskey.... A man can dream cant he?

Actually...... I did hear Toooj talk about a craft distillery in Buffalo that KA-BAR is friends with. Rye and Vodka.

Because of the Rc. It low enough to be a machete.

I remember you saying that at Blade, now that I think about it.

I want to change my answer to "what Moose said."

Still a choppin' MO-SHEEN though.

So you would say that the Kukri outperforms the cutlass?

Yes...and I say this in shame. :) The Cutlass is great and was my go-to chopping blade. Then, a buddy got the Kukri and although the performance isn't enough to make a huge difference, it does bite a little deeper than the Cutlass.

Ah ha...I see the HRC is 52-54. That must be why when I'm messing around and baton through some wood into the brick patio it's a breeze to fix.

It also ages quite nicely.

I've never been a fan of the Kukri, or any machetes for that matter. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was from when I was a kid. Everytime we got our hands on some long blades we always cut something up, or down, that we shouldn't have and got in trouble. Hmmm

That's a higher rockwell hardness than most European style swords.

And not knowing the differentiation in the levels of rockwell hardness I'm reading that as just below the hardness rating of the BK9.

Wonder what the difference is in performance for the Kukri Vs the Grass Machete... I want to say the Kukri would do better, but I love the look of that grind on the grass machete.

I've used the Grass Machete to baton through some wood and it worked great. The grind works fine for that kind of work and that long straight spine really helps too. I haven't used it to clean up fallen limbs and branches but I would think the shape of that double angled grind wouldn't lend it to being as efficient a chopper. I think it'll get it done but it's just not designed for that kind of work, whereas that is exactly what the Black Kukri is designed to do. The two make a great duo though and you'd be more than capable of clearing and/or processing a lot of plant life around camp.
