Hey guys, got the surge for christmas. At first i wasn't very impressed. The plier handles had some play, one of the bolsters (where the clip goes) was crooked and loose, the clip itself fits, but can be pushed all the way to the other side (other handle). I took apart all the screws and loctited them, only one of the plier pivot screws had loctite, it was red. All the rest had no loctite. So i threw some blue on all of them and adjusted them accordingly. Then, i consolidated all the important bits into one bit card (i wish i could carry two), found a pen clip for the bit extender, and put the extender and my streamlight microstream into the side loops. Since i got all the issues sorted out, i love it. I carry it by my left front pocket horizontally on my belt. I put the "review" title just because it was a first impression, and they didn't have that title.

Same with its little brother, the original Wave...had to tinker it quite a bit, now its fine and one of my "go to" tools...

The play in the handles is gone now?
Mine still has a little...not much to do about it.

I have no kick agains't the Surge , for me the weight penalty to function ratio is all wrong . I don't need it off duty , on duty I just have too much crap on my belt already .

I love my Surge. The Scissors are great, and I believe that ALL multi-tools should have an awl. That being said, it's too heavy for me to EDC (I don't use shealths, I'm a pocket-carry-only kind of fellow), so the Surge stays in my Jeep.

I gave one to a former employee , he uses it as a glove compartment emergency tool .

Do any of you know of a leatherman branded sheath that will fit both bit kits, the surge, the extender, the file sleeve thing and a small flashlight? I can fit all this now, minus a bit card.

The SURGE is a good tool. In my opinion, it's one of the best MT's as it has "everything". With the Charge's, SwissTool's, and Spirit's you have to pick your tool selection. If you want scissors or a serrated blade etc. With the SURGE, it has everything that most multitools lack. The weight is a killer though. I can carry a Spirit and have more capabilities then with the SURGE so it isn't carried as much tbh
