Went straight to CRN when doors opened early at blade show. Bought the new small micarta inlay sebenza as a edc knife to replace my 2001 uniqe graffic sebenza(went to safe).
My 2001 model opened so easy and smooth. It also slid in and out of pocket just perfect. Wanted a matte sebenza though and also love micarta.
They were great at the booth, put matte screws in, gave me tube of there grease and even took the knife apart to show me how. Great service!
Problem is my new one is so hard to open. It seems to take about 5 times the pressure from my thumb to open it. It is hurting my thumb because I just love to open and close a knife when it is new.
Anybody know of anyone that could put a better thumbstud on it? I think there pointed stud is not good on stiff to open knife?
Allen Elishewitz has the best stud design of any of my knives. I don't think he would put one on my sebenza though.
Will the blade get easier to open with time? I bought my old one slightly used and it is super easy to open. Also hate new clip, I took the old one off and put it on the new knife to keep from wearing pants pocket out
Where can I get the old style clip? CRK has no more. I would buy a couple of new clips and trade to someone for the old clips if in good shape.
Sorry to go so long, just joined yesterday, so being newbie is my escuse this time. (note)- the new clip is fine on the non inlay knives, but with the inlay knives the clip is lower than the handle inlay because they can't put inlay on frame under clip. They should put the old style clip on the inlay models! would cost them to much to make both clips I guess. Has anyone else noticed how the new clip works with enlays? When I put the old clip on it is perfect. The bottom v on clip is perfectly level with the inlay. Would like to hear your thoughs or advise if you made it to the end of this. sorry again for lenght. Thanks Ken

I know the factory recomends ficking it open several hundred times a day, as hard as you can. Just kidding (DON"T do that), it may just be the normal tightness of a new knife and will just wear itself in. I got my large Sebbie used and it's always opened like glass. I got my small Sebenza new and it took awhile to break in.
If it's really really tight you might want to use the wrench that comes with it and loosen it a bit.
Re the thumb studs, I didn't like them at first but now don't even notice them.

Yea I would try loosening it a bit at the pivot, The thumbstud on the Sebenzas is great IMO, you always get a positive bite on it when opening.

I experienced the same thing with my decorated small sebenza I bought earlier this year. I opened it about 90% of the way and would almost close it and did this back and forth very quickly everytime I had the knife out and that helped some.

Also, I reversed the screws, and when I did that, I didn't tighten them quite as much as they were from the factory and that helped tremendously. So think of it as another excuse to reverse the screws in your new knife.

The Seb thumbstud is pushed from the side of it with the tip of your thumb; it's not meant for the pad of your thumb to go onto the top of the thumb-lug.

thanks mchenry and others, I may try the screw reversal.
Boink, I know how to use a thumbstud as most do, if you tryed using pad of thumb this knife is so stiff it would not open.
