Less than 5 minutes ago I spoke on the telephone to Mr. D'Alton Holder, designer of the Spyderco "Toad". He graciously took the time to answer (with some amusement) my questions about his blade signature.
Mr. Holder said he has used a SMALL "h" in his last name on the blade signature for quite a while, "just to be a little different". He said he now even signs his checks that way. As to the origins of his first name, D'Alton, even he doesn't know! He said it was given to him by an aunt when he was born.
What a fine gentleman. I hope I am able to purchase one of his custom knives soon. We did get into a small argument over the "Toad". He thinks it's ugly, I think it's beautiful. What the heck does he know about knives anyway.
