Hello everyone!
This year I have really gotten into traditional knives. I have picked up a handful, and by far my favorite is the GEC #15(especially the cap lifter! ).. The handle size (in both the single and 2 blade patterns), and the pull and snap these have just feels perfect to me.. Not to say the other patterns I have aren't nice knives, but they don't speak to me on the same level....

So, the big question here is are there other patterns than have similar pulls?(as a norm, because most other patterns have been on the strong side), the closest in pull I have come across is the 47, which is my second favorite out of what I have, and the handle/blade on the 47 is a nice combo, handle size is nice and the blade is excellent for carrying to the orchard to slice apples for eating....

I guess what would be the easy answers to give me are patterns I "should try" based on what I really like

Throw some ideas at me!

If you like the #15 then you should definitely try the #77, it's a bit of a wider frame but really comfortable in hand. I sold my #77 forum knife recently but from what I remember the pull was fairly similar to my #15 huckleberry boys knife.

Best advice is try a few and find what suits :) (sounds good in theory but the wallet squeals in disagreement)

The 77 and the 92 both look very attractive. The 77 looks very close to a 15, just a little larger which is the direction I'd go in size... I'll have to pick one up at some point

I suggest just waiting and seeing what GEC comes out with. They seem to roll out new patterns fairly often and don't rotate back to the old ones for a while (if ever), so maybe keep your powder dry and look for the Next Big Thing.

I would say the 48 but if the 77 is to big the 48 may be to long.

Another vote for the #85 pattern. It's 3⅝" closed, so a little bigger than a #15, and the pulls are very similar as well.

If pull and action are your main concern, I would definitely go with the 48 pattern. I haven't seen one yet that didn't have gorgeous action. If handle size is more a priority, then definitely the 85. I'd throw the 77 in there too, but in the few I've seen, the action can be a little sluggish. Nothing that won't work itself out over time though.

Why don't you try something completely different? A congress or a whittler perhaps?

The #15s are great. So great that they have become the default traditional of choice for 99% of the forum. GEC (and Charlie) definitely got it right with that one, so maybe buck the trend, take a leap of faith and try a new direction :)

... Maybe a congress whittler? GEC made the 62 Courthouse whittler. It's longer than the 15 but has a more sleek and slender frame. You have a good selection of utility options with wharncliffe, pen and coping blades.

You never know, you might just like it ;)

I agree, the all of the 66 patterns are nice. They don't have half stops like the 15.

The Case Mini Trapper is the same size, has half stops and has a similar pull to the 15's. I bet you might like one of those.
