Well, I just received my first batch of loveless style bolts to attach slab handles. Do I just thread one brass fitting, insertthrough handle and slabs then screw on second brass fitting.....then grind away? Weill the grinding sort of mesh the nut and bolt together so it wont loosen up again?

Looks like I'll have a nice weekend at the grinder...he he....

I counter-sink my holes, insert the round nuts in the holes with some epoxy on them, epoxy the slabs to the tang, line everything up and then screw the bolt through and C clamp everything up. Be sure not to grind on the bolts too long, they can heat up and discolor the surrounding handle material. I usually cut off the excess bolt material with a hacksaw, then file down before shaping with the belt sander.

Pretty much what has been said. I have had trouble finding the exactly precise size drill for the pin hole for the tang, so the threaded bolt will shift ever so slightly in the hole. On my (READ - EXTREMELY) hard use knives, esp. with chopping, the handle slabs can break the epoxy seals and shift ever so little on the tang.

This is very unlikely to happen, but to prevent even the slightest movement, I have been using two 1/8inch pin stock locator pins at each end of the handle adjacent to the holes for the threaded rod. I drill shallow blind holes into the handle material. the 1/8inch material is easy enough to get precisely fitted, so there is absolutely no slop whatsoever when the whole handle is screwed together.

I found this useful, thought I'd share it. Jason.

Does the screw need to be tight? I can bottom the brass nut closest to the screw head down then crank the whole mess together......Guess I'll just have to go for it huh?
