Hi Custom guys. I'm active in the Schrade forum here, and had a question about Bob Loveless and his 'Dropped Hunter' design. One of the more desirable Schrades is the Schrade-Loveless drop point, with his style of rivets and that dropped blade. What year did he come up with this design? Does he mention his relationship with Schrade in his new book, "life on the edge"?
Also, I am under the impression that this was the first of the factory-custom maker collaborations. Is that a fact?
Thanks for your help,
Phil

Those Schrade knives date to 1976 or so. He started building knives in 1954, but that stylized design is much younger than that, but I don't remember the exact date of the custom's design.

Yes, it was the first widespread factory/custom collaboration.

If you can find a directory for Blade magazine, they wrote a few articles on them over the years.

:).

Loveless made these models at least as early as 1973. Most likely earlier. The handle is termed the "improved" handle which was a Thomas Lamb design.

The Schrade collaborations were many in variation. Among the first to be submitted to Loveless for approval from Shrade were those with maroon delrin handles and 154 CM blades. They had a brass collar and dual brass bolts just like the one in your pic above. But there are similar models that were offered only a few years ago. One notably was by the NRA. But with maroon micarta handles.
