Hi guys. Kind of a custom knife question, I enjoy productions, mostly old pocket knives, but as Schrade is one of my favorites, I have a question on the Schrade/Loveless collaboration of a few years back.

Here is a pic of the Handle of the knife. I think I have read somewhere about Bob Loveless and his way of attaching such handles. Are these typical of his work? And just how do those rivets/pins, whatever, work?

Thanks,
Phil

They use a screw and two barrel nuts. When tightened and ground off, you get the bird's eye effect you see in the photograph. You can get them in several combinations: brass screw and stainless barrels, stainless screw with brass barrels, and I have some with stainless screws and copper barrels.

That type of handle bolt was favored by Bob Loveless.

Edited to add; You use the proper size countersink drills when installing those bolts, and only drill down to a predetermined depth, leaving material in the bottom that the bottom of the outer part of the bolt will rest on.
When the central screws are tightened, it just pulls the handle together.

It's simple, and works well, but personally, I don't like the bullseye effect, and the large diameter, and prefer hidden bolt rivets for a cleaner look. They're installed in the same manner.

Thanks very much, guys. Very ingenious. Interesting links as well. I take off my old boonie hat to you guys skilled enough to make these things.
