Just got a call from a friend who knows me to be a knife guy. A friend of his has a knife stamped Loveless & Parke Safariland, says it's about a 6" drop point blade with a stag handle, and asked me if I knew anything about it. Hearing Loveless, of course got me excited, but I wasn't familiar with Parke.

A quick search told me that Parke was Bob's first business partner and was going to handle sales and marketing. The article also said he was a big influence on the early designs. More importantly for this guy (he's selling the knife) is that it says there were only 36 L&P knives made and only 10 had the Safariland stamp. The punchline is that someone offered him $800 and the next guy (after hearing about the $800 offer) offered him $1000! I told him it was probably closer to $20K than $1K, but then I found one that sold last year on the bay for less than than $7K. What am I missing?

Also, my collecting has never reached to these heights, so what's his best avenue to get a decent price for this? And what would that be? I can't imagine a 1 out of 10 early Loveless going for under $7K- but what do I know!

Just to make it more fun, he said he got the knife at a yard sale about 25 years ago for $5!

I'm hoping! I told him I'd love to see the knife and he said he "might" come by. Turns out he's a friend of a friend of mine and his girlfriend is a friend of my wife's.

I don't know what you mean by a Randall brand.

Looks like I was wrong about the $7000 one. When I went looking for it to see the condition, the only one I could find was $11,500- other than the 1 of a kind fighter asking $100,000!

Just got a look at the knife and he has asked me to sell it for him. It's a bit rough- am I right that I should not clean it up? I'll try to get the pics up

Wow, I had to downsize that all the way to 400x231 to get the image loader to accept it (from Photobucket)- what am I doing wrong?

A yard sale...go figure. As Chuck suggest, Mr. Denton is the contact person. And don't attempt to clean the knife. That might cost in the long run.
