Loveless pattern vs. Loveless inspired...

Just finished these two; a classic Loveless pattern Drop Hunter and one on steroids.

I tried to keep all the styling cues and design elements; 36" hollow grind vs. 10", tapered tang, handle fasteners, and of course green Micarta. The classic is a nominal .187" thick with a mirror polish and the "inspired" is .270" with a brushed finish.

Just having fun with knife making let me know what you think.

Amazing work. The fit and finish on these are excellent. I appreciate how you translate the Loveless patterns to larger, more "tactical", designs, while retaining the qualities that show the original inspiration. The Loveless inspired prototype feels great in the hand, and that "expanded" Drop Hunter blade is beautiful.

Very nice David. Both are beautiful and your inspired one looks like a fantastic user!

the guard on your Loveless inspired knife looks a little too far into the handle. Decreasing the size of the choil and moving the guard forward would do it. I'd also suggest moving the lanyard hole down toward the centerline of the handle. Lastly, thinning the handle scales down toward the front, and rounding the top of the handle a little deeper into the palm swell region might be nice.

I like them both on their own merits, nicely done.

Thanks for the kind comments fellas!

Mirror for sure!

Hakins, I have been toying with the idea for a while. Your Proof of Concept series kinda pushed me over the edge.

(With a snort of derision) :D Thanks for the input Lorien that is why I posted. To bad you're not going to Blade I'd love to meet you.

As an aside; I stopped and showed Jim Merritt both of these and a couple of Chutes I just finished. He got a kick out of the modified Drop Hunter and made the comment that if we changed the logo on the classic nobody would know the difference (I could barely fit my bald head through the door).

Guys, the thread is over 3 years old, and David has been making folders lately.

Best Regards,
