As the title says. Who makes them, and what models? I know of a few, like the Buck Vanguard and Schrade PH series. But I'm probably missing others. I'm sure most will be factory mass produced. Particularly if the steel is other than 1095. I prefer stain-less or -resistant, not because I'm lazy (nothing I carry is rusty), but because I like the blade to not develop a patina. I wouldn't rule out a custom, but understand that most are over that figure, which is my absolute max. I've searched here, but not found this info on an an existing thread yet, other than http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ng-Ten-Inexpensive-Hunting-Knives-(Pic-Heavy)
Which is a good start, but I don't mind spending more than $25.

How "Loveless style" are how talking about? The Loveless Drop Point is a full grind, which that Buck isn't.

Are you serious about spending over $25? That's crazy expensive! Seriously; you're not going to find it for under $100.

How Loveless faithful? Doesn't have to be a 100% match. However, definitely the closer the better. I understand that details like a metal guard and good looking scales cost money. Which is why I put up to $150. Otherwise, I'd just get a Cold Steel Pendleton Lite Hunter. Which doesn't have a full tang, metal guard, or any detail work at all, so I'm not interested in them, or most of the other knives in the thread I listed above.

Things to google:

Beretta loveless, Rough Rider loveless, Lone Wolf loveless, Gerber loveless, Marbles Loveless ...

Other than stainless, what are you looking for? The drop-point hunter style? Why go cheap rather than getting a nice custom?

I got this on ebay for $200 last month...they are great knives.

Grolim,

Thank you for the examples. Unfortunately, I've already looked into those. IMO, the Rough Rider is an outstanding value. But it is still a cheap knife. Yes, drop point hunter style. Why $150 or less? That's my budget. I understand many have a higher one. But I don't have the disposable income to justify spending more for an item I will actually use (i.e., get bloody) in the field 1 or 2 days a year.

The Rough rider was the only cheap one, the others are high quality Japanese, Italian, and USA models. The Marbles doesn't follow the same "loveless-style drop-point hunter" pattern, which i guess is really what you are after, but there is one on the bay for <$100 now.

If you are really willing to spend $150 to get what you really want, you could contact a maker who sells HERE, get some quotes and see how far you can get.

For me, I decided that i liked the design too much to settle for less than a custom (WC Davis version, S30V steel) but I certainly do not use it as much as some of my other knives. As you say, some folks don't hunt regularly or have other uses for a 4" hunting knife or don't have the money to invest in a design they want. You could always just get something to use until the day you CAN afford what you really want... plenty of 4" hunting knives out there. Eitherway, Good luck!
