Pictured above are three of the Scrhade PH knives that I had not seen before the Schrade closing and the current crop of unusual Schrades on Ebay. Finding these to be great hunting knives, I already had a PH1 and 2 with the plain black handles... so I had to purchase the above three. I owe thanks to a member here for pointing me to the 'Wild Und Hund'. Tip of the Boonie hat to ya, Mike.

The wood handled 'Wild Und' (By the way, what does WILD UND HUND transalate to?)turns out not to be the Euro version of the PH knife. Which has a more slender handle and blade (am I right there, Larry?). Something unusual about this knife.. I don't know if you can see it or not, but etched on the blade is: 440 Stainless Steel . Where does that come from? We all know what the Schrade+ steel is, so what's with this????

Second knife is very cool... has bone carved to look like stag (looks more like elk horn to me), and the sheild of my favorite GunMaker, Ruger. Now regular knife knuts know that Case just became the offical knife of Ruger, but was Schrade the first choice? The Case/Ruger knives were introduced this fall, was there an original deal with Schrade that fell through??? (what knife user would rather not own a Schrade than a Case?). This knife does NOT have Schrade, or anything else marked onto the tang.. without a doubt, it is a PH2, however.

Last knife is a blue jigged bone (not delrin) PH2. Now where the heck did this come from? Any of you guys with old catalogs see this listed? The tang mark is SCHRADE+, USA LTD. that is all. Now when I see blue bone on a knife, I immediately think of the Lowes (big box home store) line up of Case blue bones, which I guess is exclusive to them. Am I letting my imagination run wild here, thinking perhaps that Scrhade was making a run for the Lowes market?

I would appreciate any and all answers or comments. All three knives were purchased from Andy at you know where, and he is a good ebay seller.

Phil, I think I have seen that knife in Ivory Micarta with the Ruger shield (ping Andy again!) Wild und hund, sorry I don't speak German, but Wild is "game" und is "and", hund in "hound" or "dog". Like daschund...dash hound. Taken all together, it is the name of one of Germany's most popular hunting magazines! So it is like a "Field And Stream" or "Sports Afield" issue for Europe.

Wildly and dog

Of Germany most renowned and best-selling hunt magazine

Dog attitude and f?ung, district care, hunting right,
Hunt politics and Ausr?ung - leichtverst?lich and?rsichtlich pr?ntiert. With brilliant photos and exciting reports.

I have seen several blue bone knives besides the PH series. It must have been a release slated for mid '04 is my guess.

Very good Codger and I got your email. Sooo... we will find the truth, as always, as we work together. I have taken your advice and just asked Andy what's up with the blue bone. Thanks for the links to the other Blue bone schrades he is offering.

A Schrade knife commemorating a hunting magazine? Has been done before, BOWHUNTER magazine, and I'd like to find one of these....

Appreciate it!

Andy wrote back to me and says that the story he heard is that the Blue Bones were made for Lowes, but the deal was never finalized. That is a little sad to think of... The knife buying public could have been furnished with truly great knives, and it just, just maybe, would have been a good enough deal to keep Schrade going. Or not.

So... I am left with the Ruger question. I know Debbie is busy probably finding a new job, wish we had another former employee to answer these kinda questions.

But not a bad weekends work, really, learning about two knives as we have. Thanks, Codger for your help. Did I ever perfrom the ceremony to make you a real member of the forum?

No, not that I am aware of Phil, but...um... it doesn't involve bloodletting with your XT1B does it? I got my XT1B in the mail yesterday and, thanks to you, I have a bald spot on my arm. I thought you said they did not come that sharp from the factory? Well anyway, except for the XT3B, and the 24OTX (another forum member is helping me with that one) I have the full X_Timer set now, excluding the folders that can wait.

I enjoy the hunt as well as you all do. And the limited and special edition oddities are the spice to it all. Perhaps the good folks at Ruger can fill in a few gaps for us.
