Here is a nice pair from my medieval collection that I have grown quite fond of (center and right).

The Japanese To on the far left cut the cake at my wedding  .

Rittersteel made the Celtic leaf. Let me know if you hear anything about them. This peice is quite heafty and very functional, 26" long at 6 lbs.

6 pounds? Well even if it werent functional enough to cut your targets in two, it would probably break them in two. The bow is very nice. Who did you get it from?

6 lbs.... no wonder Rittersteel....

Functional... maybe. Kinda heavy and probably the blade geometry is shot to hell.

I prefer the Kris Cutlery Celtic myself. There's better ones... but not for the price AFAIK.

Who made the ballock dagger?

Seno - Kris does make a nice looking Celtic sword. They don't mention anything about the blade material though or the construction method. I chose Rittersteel because they basically took a museum piece and forged the sword using the same methods and types of materials that where used back in the day. Hand poured solid brass guard and pommel and very thick hammer forged over hot coals bladestock. Then it is hand ground and sharpened, sure there are some imperfections but that is what I was going for in a historically accurate piece. It is heavy but it's short length makes up for the weight in manuverability. It goes really well with my renfest garb :D

The Dirk/Ballock knife can be found at the Celtic Croft. It's hand made somewhere in Scottland (from what I've been told). ;)

The Bow I made myself as well as the atlatl lying on top of it.

How difficult was it to make? Great piece of work. I am very impressed. Do you shoot it?

I target practice with it. I don't hunt, but I love to know how so right now my only target is "the Block". You generally have to steam the wood to form the shape you want. That was as far as I could take it (the tolerances of the wood would not allow it to bend anymore without suffering strength) the hide that wraps the bow was given to me and also adornes the sheaths for the sword and knife. ;)

Sorry to tell you this, but brass would likely not have been "poured" which in their case means cast. It would be more likely to have been forged and then worked into place. Hammerforged over hot coal bladestock? What? I'd say you got duped. It's advertising hype/lies.

And 6 lbs is FAR too heavy for a single hand sword. Most longswords certainly don't weigh that much.

All the Kris Cutlery stuff is 5160 with a great heat treat AFAIK - that's more a question for SFI. However, I can tell you most to all Ritter Steel stuff is questionable quality in the discussions over at SFI.
BTW: Apparently (this is second/third-hand) there was some issues with quality for a year or so in KC products, but it's been resolved and for the last 3-5 years they're produced VERY good products for the price range. I'd recommend to at least try one of their swords... likely you'll love it and the way it handles. If not, their customer service is stellar from all accounts.

Hey Thanks Seno! ;) I really appreciate the info, and will definately pick up one of KC's leaf blades. Yeah I suppose it's easy to certify something as "authentic" without it actually being as such. Sure is a good marketing ploy though (unfortunately) :footinmou

"Who can ya trust, hubba hubba hubba, who can ya trust!" the Joker "Batman"

Unfortunately the sheath on the KC looks pretty weak :barf:

But basically (from the links to the SF) what you are saying is that the construction method for the Ritterstuff is "false advertising"? Or are there just QC issues.

Rittersteel stuff isn't designed properly as a "real sword" - it's more like they made the blade very thick (and hence poorly balanced)... possibly for countering poor heat treat? I can't say SPECIFICALLY for the Celtic... but the weight alone should tell you something.

You *really* should ask around at SFI, as I couldn't really tell you. I've handled some Rittersteel stuff and they all sucked big time. If you post on swordforum for what you're looking for, time period you're willing to wait, and price range I'm sure people will be able to help you.

I don't know anything about the KC scabbard... but people seem to like it - maybe they know best. I'm planning to get a KC Shingen sometime soon.
