Here is a special order that has suffered a cracked handle. I am not sure what to call this khukuri but it is 28.5 inches long, 7/16 thick, 2 & 5/8 wide max, and weighs 3.5 lbs. It is a good rig and I think Sanu make it but the blade is not marked. Fit, finish, hardness are good. Karda and chakma, very good. Scabbard and frog show the sarkis were sober -- they did quite a nice job.

Take this khukuri for $125 and I will pay shipping. This is a LOT of khukuri for this amount of money. There is room to pay Terry Sisco to put on a top quality walnut handle and still sell the knife at a good profit.

Call or email if interested.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill I think it's a sword. It's kinda ugly but it's also begining to grow on me.

I dont like the handle on this model.Have your guys ever made a large knife like thsi with slab handles?Probably not since they're more traditional, but just checking.

Holy smokes.

What a monster. I thought that the 20" Sirupati was in short sword territory.

Terry, I was gonna visit anyway...but I will definitely have to see this.

Uncle Bill, is Oklahoma over-represented in your forum? Maybe we should adopt the khukuri as the official knife of the Sooner state. (That should shake up those Texas boys with their "bird and trout" bowies.)

Bill, you've also got a lot of nephews in South Florida. So, when are you coming for a visit?

After yvsa's thread on modifying handles a while back, I got the gumption up to cut down the handle on my 22" AK, which normally felt like grabbing a beer can. Not condusive to extended work. So, when i got through whittling it down, it looks remarkably like this one here. The handle may look ugly and weird, but it WORKS! Very easy to use; gives a good grip, and doesn't overly fatigue the hand. No hot spots, etc. If the handle on one of your khuks is too big, by all means work on it. You'll soon get used to the altered "aesthetics" when you see how well it chops with a handle suited to your individual hand.

Ton, that is very good advice. I don't care how beautiful a knife might be if it doesn't cut well then it is not much good.

And, you're right. I have a bunch of nephews in Fl, too. And who knows, I may be showing up there later this year.

Khukuri FAQ

Dan, you are right and the wood was beautiful. I was heartsick when it cracked but I am hoping that Terry can clamp and epoxy and perhaps make the crack fade into the grain. Worst case, he can make a walnut handle for it and end up with a knife he can sell for $250.

Khukuri FAQ

Arrived on the scene too late. Thats neat, sort of looks like a big Ganga Ram Special. Should also be good for someone who does not like the ring on the handle.

Will

Bill,
I got this beast yesterday. I wasn't expecting it to be quite this big, but I have chopped a little with it.
The sweet spot seems to be about 6 1/2 in. to 7 in. from the tip. The blade has a good temper to it and is fullered about half the length of the blade. The handle is slick to hold on to, it needs to have a ring or a carved band around it, which I'll be adding later. It holds it's edge very well even after chopping a few black locust trees.
The sheath is well made and fits the khukuri perfect.
In other words, I LIKE IT!!!!!
Thanks Uncle Bill
Terry
