Loving lockbacks

I have read the recent threads on framelocks and the axis lock. And I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in for the lockback. I have an AG Russell Featherlite One hand knife in ATS-34 (usually comes with AUS8A). At 1 1/2 ounces, it's light and slim though there is no clip. It pretty much does all I ask to cut fruit, open a box or cover as a letter opener. I suppose for my $50 I could have had a mini-grip or a Delica. Both wonderful knives to be sure. Or I could have save for a small sebbie the way a Corolla owner might save for a BMW. One difference obviously being you can't disassemble a BMW for cleaning and maintenance the way you can a small sebbie. The car analogy only goes so far. That said. Money is money. A dollar for the small sebbie is a dollar that can't go into savings or some fine conspicuous consumption. There is something to be said for appreciating what you have. And here's to the lockback, a simple design, time tested, reliable and inexpensive. YMMV.

That's a rather interesting lock design. Much different than a normal lockback like on the Buck 110. How do you like the lock on that thing?

I really like lockbacks, if other locking knives came with springs to keep the blade closed, as lockbacks and slipjoints do, I would probably be more interested in them.

That top pulling lock in the featherlight remindes me of the old Spanish navajas with external springs, pull ring and ratchet, as mentioned, a reliable and inexpensive design.

AG Russell has a plastic thumb grip on the spine that allows an easy one hand open and close.

I would like to give my two cents for the A.G. Russell one-Hand knives. I have one of each and they are super light and practical. I've had the ATS-34 bowie style knife for a while and it's on par with any other knife in that price range that I have owned.

more than I trust other locks at that price point. All of my lockers are lockbacks and I don't see that changing in the near future. For the price of a Strider or Sebenza I could put a new motor in my Baja or dual exhaust on the Valiant. If I'm ever so fortunate to have that kind of money to spare I may pick up a framelock that would put my lockback to shame. But for now, for me, the lockback is king.
