My hunt for a new cell phone has finally led me to the Ericsson T39.

My old T28 served me faithfully and was my top choice of the many cell phones I've owned but the desire for a built-in web browser was what finally made me pass the T28 on to my wife.

The T39 (96 x 51 x 18 mm) is only 3mm thicker than the T28 but for that you get the web browser, a built-in voice recorder, a built-in infrared port, and about double the battery life (200+ hours of standby).

Also new is a multi-entry phone book (5 phone numbers plus e-mail address per entry) with voice dialing smart enough to know which of the 5 numbers you want to dial.
If you have an infrared port on your PC you can also the included software to synchronize your phone book with Microsoft Outlook.

The new T9 text inputting method makes text messages a breeze to enter and send.

For those that like to personalize their phones the T39 also has 8 user-programmable ringtones and the ability to add custom on-screen background logos.

The Siemens S40 was the runner-up for my consideration but its many reported bugs and the T39s smaller size was what decided the contest.
