****Note I got a little ahead of myslef on this one...the pictures start in post #7****

Ok, sorry, no pics yet...will have to wait until tomorrow, but I'm stoked and really looking forward to posting them. I was messing around in the woods out back earlier in the snow and sleet and didn't have my camera with me. Tomorrow if needs be I'll set up a shelter for the camera and do video. Anyway... seeing the big slivers of fatwood I batonned off a large section with the HEST last week just laying there on the wet ground I couldn't resist. I was able to whittle a couple of really nice little fuzz sticks of wet on the outside fatwood (I love how this knife handles), split some thin slivers of fatwood for the initial fuel, and then, using the serration groove closest to the handle strike great sparks and globs of molten metal from a 3/16" X 2" mischmetal ferro rod I just got in from Going Gear and have fire in 2 sparkings, less than five minutes total, out in the sleet and freezing rain with everything wet. I was at first wondering about maybe sanding some coating off the spine for fire craft but now that I have decided to make that groove my dedicated sparking surface I have quit thinking that. This thing handles really well and is a great useful size. I'm loving this knife!!

I'll start the pictures tomorrow.

Look forward to photos. Sounds like a good time, it's a great knife

Since there has been some breaks in the sleet and freezing rain I've thought about putting on the head lamp and going out there and taking some tonight lol...think I'll just exhibit a little sanity here and wait till morning :)

There is no room for sanity in the ESSE forum blasphemer!! ;):p

On my RC3 that has serrations I just use one of the back serrations to strike my firesteel... works great too.. no need in sanding off the coating on the spine...

Maybe I'm just getting old :)

That's what I've started doing and it works really good. I took it out with me today and worked with it some...video up-loading on Y.T. now, then I'll upload the stills on P.B.

I really do like working with this knife. It's small enough to tuck away, is quick in the hand, handles really well, and is relatively light...yet it is heavy enough to take some abuse.

I used it to baton off some slivers of fatwood earlier.

Then I used it to whittle some fuzz sticks.

Actually I did all of that a couple of times, once for the video, and then again for the still shots. There are two videos, but the second one was done only because I went over the ten minutes Y.T. allows and wanted to show that even with as wet as the ground and wood here is the fatwood would get the fire going with little fuss. It's great for getting your fire going while you gather more fuel.

I am planning on doing some food prep with it in the kitchen later on tonight.

I have the same RC4 except mine is the plain edge version. Fantastic kinfe it has handled everything I've thrown at it.

Nice, I just ordered one on Friday, now I really cant wait to put it to use.

Yeah...I had trouble waiting on mine too :)

It is a great knife, I love how the size and sheath design give me so many different carry options too.

I used the RC4S as my only knife to prep supper tonight. Nothing fancy but the knife handled it very well...I am very pleased with it, I know it'll handle any camp cooking chores I may throw at it just fine.

I started with some Kielbasa, potatoes, onion, fresh garlic and some celery. I think the pics pretty much speak for themselves so...

Great photos. I love seeing knives used as they were meant to be used. Keep them coming.

Thanks, I'll be checking it out for a while to come :)

Another thing that has really impressed me is the durability of the coating so far. This picture....

was taken yesterday evening. And this one was taken earlier tonight.

The batoning through the fatwood and the whittling and the little chopping I've done seems to have had little effect on it and the fatwood resin cleaned right using a little Lysol kitchen cleaner...and that also seems to have had no negative effects on the coating.

Great looking tool. I like knives that do real world jobs with ease. Is it the black with gray version? Thanks for sharing. The pack looks comfy.

thanks Rocky, the flash does something funny...actually it has a tan blade with green scales.

I love the pack too.

^^ I make that same dish but with a light cheese sauce, love it. I think I know whats for dinner.

Used my Izula the other night to prepare chicken and bell peppers for stir-fry, worked great!

Yeah I had something similar for lunch yesterday. Comfort food. These knives are awesome slicers and easy to maintain.
