When I say low negative effect, I mean I may have to use it to cut the seal on a boxed loose diamond, in a jellewery store,in front of customers,so not too tactical and not too garish looking , no radical gemotries or overly wild damascus patterns, just clean lines and design. Would be nice to also keep it reasonably small for same reason, but not too small that its no good for deer hunting season or other practical uses.
A tasteful amount of well applied carbon fibre could give it some unique distinguished tasteful acceptance, or just plain blasted Ti, Im not sure.
- something with 2.5" or under blade.
Some of the William Henry style units look approriate,(Attache 05,Ti Monarch)
but give me your idea of what you feel is appropriate and tasteful. Factory or custom, show me what your thinking....

A Spyderco Kopa might fit the bill. They are available with a variety of scale materials including mother of pearl and are a classy looking knife that's not to big. You might also want to look at a Spyderco Kiwi. It's a little smaller than the Kopa.

I was going to mention WH's as one to look at. Also look at Chris Reeve knives, the small Sebenza and the Mnandi are two you might find acceptable. Also at the price point these knives go out door, you might want to look at a custom. There are several makers here at BF that make knives. Look over in the Makers section and then go to the Folders For Sale area. Good luck on finding what you want!! And welcome to BF, if you have not already been welcomed.:D:D:D

Hi,

While a SAK would totally practical, I would look for something with a bit of elegance to it. There are some very nice peanuts made. I like the Queen pearl peanut myself. Heck, Rough Rider makes a bunch of them with different scale material. And for light use just opening the seal on a box, would be just fine and dirt cheap to boot.

You described the AG Russell 2.5 Titanium Lockback almost to a T in your original post. VG-10 blade at 2.5", titanium body, drop point...and priced at 25 bucks, what more could you ask for?

of course not all damascus is flashy, the AG Russell Mini Lockback are VG-10 damascus with a dressier handle material with a 2 3/16" blade or go full size with a 3" blade

I think that's what you need.

+1, stick with William Henry...as Bernard Levine wrote the other day "the Rolex" of folders...

or search the exchange for a custom folder that suits your style and doesn't detract from ritual of presenting diamonds.

Thanks guys for the welcome and suggestions(all of them).
Seems theres some very good low dollar value out there.
I did some snooping around and came across these examples from Best Knives website,
Some are larger than I want, and not all colors are ideal, BUT I like the geometry of these:

This WH-05 Carbon would be nice if it had a toned down blade. http://www.knifeart.com/wiheqmodafo.html

+1 on William Henry. Or at the opposite end of the spectrum, Opinels don't look bad, and they're very tame.

Hmmmmm, so people who buy diamonds aren't into 'flashy'?? :D
I'd be getting something that would encourage them to spend.

Any WH would look great and perform great. All the ones I have handled are perfect for light duty. They also have plain ZDP if you don't like Damascus.

A nice custom two blade slippie would work well also. Needs two hands to open, so it will not come across as a weapon. You could pull the small blade for the tape, yet still have the larger one on hand should you need it.

Please post pics of what ever you get :D

You are opening little boxes, get the A.G. Russel for $25.00, or a dozen of them.

fallkniven U2 is very inexpensive, practical, simple and untactical. maybe a little bland looking, though.

being a knifenut i'd prob go for a william henry, too...
