I'm trying to see if there is a good low profile knife bigger than the Gerber Guardian, about 4-5 inches. Looking at 150.00 or less. Want something to carry on a crowded trail which will not look super bulky, yet is a fairly strong knife.
Trying to avoid drawing attention to myself since I like this trail but want something more than the folders I usually carry.

Hmm. Not familiar with that knife.

However, given what you seem to want, talk with Fiddleback, Stomper, and Koyote (knifemakers easily available here on BF). They may be able to help you.

Good luck!

As per OP, for $150 you should be able to get a plain and functional custom from one of the makers above.

If you want a production knife, one to consider is Fallkniven - F1 just below 4 inches, H1 I think is 4 inches, S1 just over 5 inches, and they should all be had for under $150 USD (for VG10 laminated, all very sturdy). The zytel sheath isn't pretty but it is compact and 'innocuous'.

Spyderco Aqua Salt very light weight, very strong and can be worn many different ways

Scrapyard Scrapper 5 is good too, a bit bulkier and heavier, but very strong with great steel. Should be fairly easy to find here on the sale forums.

ESEE knives, formerly RAT knives, makes some great blades. They have an RC 3, 4, 5 and 6, choose whichever size you think would suit you best.

Customs are worth looking at too, many fall within your price range.

I was just reading about the Rats and was confused about ESEE thinking it was a specialty RAT So ESEE is the name of the new company?

Just a name change, same people, same quality. It also differentiates them from the Ontario RAT knives which are considered by many on the forums to be of lesser quality than ESEE/RAT cutlery (I've never owned an Ontario RAT but I do enjoy my Izula from RAT cutlery).

ESEE is a GREAT option if you don't mind carbon steel/rust potential. RAT cutlery will still be on the market until the ESEE branded knives take over, so if buying in the near future they will still be labelled RAT cutlery, RC 3, RC4, RC 5...

ESEE have a subforum here on BFs - worth checking out - they have a strong following!

Gerber Guardian's a small black dual-edge dagger boot knife, isn't it?
and if you're inclined for such, there's also the CRKT's A.G. Russell Sting to consider!
a guranteed attention grabber once fully drawn.

The lowest profile fixed blade that would still be adequate in an emergency situation would be the ESEE Izula.

The dagger design is the one I was thinking of by Gerber, but doesn't have to be a dagger though
Thanks everyone

If you liked the Guardian, you could always look at the other sizes of Guardian that used to be made by Gerber. I believe they came in three sizes, and while they only continued making the smallest of the three, you can sometimes find the other two sizes on eBay for a wide range of prices.

ESEE is coming with an RC-3 and an RC-4 with a sharpened spine very soon. They blades were unveiled at SHOT.
