Low Profile Folder

I'm looking for a folder with a pocket clip that sits low enough as to only show the clip itself. The clip must be black to be inconspicuous in plain view. Can anyone provide me with suggestions?

Darrel Ralph offers a clip style that allows for the type of deep pocket carry you've described. I have one on my large Apogee and it works very well. I'm sure getting it in black would be no problem.

I have a close friend that had the exact requirements as yourself. I took him shopping, and I steered him to the EDI Genesis II. This happens to be the lighter weight version with resin handles (very similar to Glock handguns) he has used it for 14 months now and absolutely loves it. He does some things with it that I would personally never do, but it has held up extremely well. I check it on occasion, sharpen it, lube, tighen screws if necessary. I am very impressed. I don't know why I haven't bought one myself?. The pocket clip it trademarked "deep-pocket" and it truly is. As deep or deeper that the SERE 2000. Good Luck!

The EDI would be great but they are out of production. The deepest pocket clips available now seem to be the Al Mar SERE or in a smaller folder, the Gerber SL or SLG 3.25. It is an ats-34 blade, titanium liner, g-10 or carbon fiber scales that can be had for under $40!

I have an EDI Genesis- great knife, but I despise the "deep-pocket" carry. Maybe its just me though....

I just picked up an EDI Genesis last week and I love it! Solid knife, good size and the deep carry clip rules. Find one and keep it!

I find the spyderco military carries pretty inconspicuously for a larger folder... the part that pokes out of the pocket is very narrow.. it is like the anti-gunting. a while back there where people making their SERE 2000 clips more "tactical" by roughing them up or coating them. a dark clip on that knife would be pretty low-key, although it hardly looks like a knife clip as it is. (at least to non-knife people)

The EDI Genesis is the one that fits the bill, but alas, EDI is not around anymore. Another to consider would be the Al Mar SERE 2000. The pocket clip on the Gerber Covert Applegate gives a good low profile when clipped.

Another great deep pocket carry is the the Spyderco Standard if you can find one. They are out of production.

How about a Benchmade/Elishewitz 690? It doesn't have the bent over clip style, but the shape of the clip doesn't look like a knifeclip. It is also short and if carried in a pocket with a flap, the flap will cover it entirely.
A note of caution about an EDI. Their QC was all over the board when they were in production. You could get a great quality one or one that totally blows chunks. The well made ones are excellent choices, but I'd make sure if it doesn't pass a personal inspection, you have the full right to return it to the dealer for your money back. This is a good principle in general, but especially important on an EDI, since there is no longer factory support.FWIW.

You need an Al Mar SERE 2000.
As was stated earlier the clip, although shiny, barely looks like a folder clip. If need be, you can remove the clip and paint it black.
I sincerely doubt you will find a better knife to carry with the criteria you specified. Your next best bet would be to go the custom route, but that can get fairly expensive fairly fast.

What it boils down to is how much money are you willing to invest in this endeavour?

Although large, heavy and with substandard steel, the standard grade CRKT KFF carries quite deeply. If I find the Pro model this weekend I'll buy one and keep the other as a trainer.

If simply low-profile carry is what floats your boat, look into getting a Pocket Savior from Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths. This is an IWB carry for a folder which also saves wear & tear on the pocket mouth. Just in case you can't part with your favorite knife but it carries badly.

Hmm...sounds like an Oprah Windbag topic..."Men Who Love Knives That Carry Poorly.";)

I would like to buy a Pocket Savior from Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths but I can not find a web address. Anyone have further info?
