Looking for something to place in my safe that can hold several blades. Something not too tall or wide that would allow you to set a blade spine down edge up and store several side by side. Anyone seen such a thing?

Sounds like something easily made from thin wood. Is it for folders or fixed blades?

It's a bit too narrow for swords; but the plexiglass Benchmade 7 Piece Knife Display seems to be a fairly low profile rack. It's about $25 (at that site where a KNIFE is the CENTER of attention). I think if you had two side by side, with some space in between, they'd both hold a sword well, with smaller knives using the individual rack slots. I've been thinking of trying that myself.

I started using both 1x2 wood and 1 1/2-2" PVC pipe to make knife supports when I run out of room in the safe.
I started with the wood but tried the PVC as it is inert so it won't hold moisture - but rust has never been a problem with either.
Cut V notch about every 1 1/2", place in middle of shelf, run knives on both sides with plenty of clearance for my hands to remove chosen blade.

Easily tripled my storage space - more space, more knives LOL

edit: just re-read your post and realized you wanted edge up storage...

Is the PVC pipe hard enough to scratch/scuff the blade, like Kydex sometimes can?

Also, if you made your notches rectagular, could you store edge up?

I came up with this. My buddy owns a casket company and has some nice 3/8ths thick pieces of oak. We can cut them about 3" tall by 12" long and then piece them together in a one inch section and create a rack that can store blades edge up above and below. 12" should be enough to balance most long blades. Wouldn't do well with short handle heavy blades but I'm not worried about them. Here is a very crude drawing I made.

Actually you could store your short knives on the bottom since they'd be laying on the surface of your shelf. And being 12" long you could put one on each end since a handle heavy knife will more than likely have a blade less than 6".
