Low ride kydex sheath for Fallkniven F1?

I've got a Fallkniven F1, came with a standard leather sheath. I wanted a kydex sheath, so I ordered a Survival Sheath Systems basic sheath with Teklok.

Nice sheath, well made, great in every respect but one: It rides too high. Dunno if it's my pudgy middle or what, but the sheath rides high enough that it digs into my back and makes it a bit difficult to remove and insert the knife.

I've played with the Teklok and can't really find a decent position for it. Is there a different sheath that rides lower? How's the factory kydex sheath? I already dropped $50.00 on this SSS rig, so I'm hesitant to spend any more money without some better research.

I have an F1 with the kydex sheath. It is about 9" long. The loop is about 3.5" long & 1.5" wide. The top of the knife rides about a 1/4" below the top of the loop. It hangs fairly well but I have not had other sheaths to compare it to. You can draw the knife out without holding the sheath with a second hand.
The kydex is a hard, solid material. The nylon loop appears very durable. The knife is reasonably tight in the sheath and would not fall out even if the safety loop was not snapped. Since it is not enclosed like the high riding Fallkniven leather sheath the handle is visible and the knife somewhat exposed to the elements.
I have only carried it on the wide strap of my pack and it has worked well for me there.
Hope that helps.

Hey Guys...

Ben,,shoot me an email,, I'll send you one of my rigid dropper loops(N/C) that will lower the sheath slightly.. Hole pattern should be the same,, however measure the hole spacing from center to center for me...If not,, I'll make something up for you..

As for dropper or dangler sheaths..
They come with a problem as well..

If the material is not rigid,, what ends up happening is the sheath comes up as you draw the knife.. This can be fixed with a leg thong,, but those Suck...

With some sheaths(kydex) what can also happen is the sheath gets cockeyed and the knife jams up coming up..This can cause problems with extra wear on the knife as well as the sheath...

Sometimes they also flap and bounce, which can be Seriously irritating as well as loud...

I've got a bit of a spare tire,,so I know exactly what you mean about pinching and such..
Shoot me your address, and I'll set you up with a loop...
you'll have to thread it onto your belt however, as it doesn't have the easy on,,easy off as the tek lok has..

ttyle

Eric...

Wow. Thanks, Eric. That's both unexpected and a really nice thing to do. I've sent you email with a jpeg of the sheath with some measurements on it.

FWIW, I've got the Foster Fears knife on the passaround that includes your sheath and it's really quite nice.

If the sheath is made with a notch for the thumb (as are Dozier's "Wilderness" sheath and the original drop style Fallkniven kydex I have for my S1) this is not an issue whatsoever.
