This is not exactly high tech. I am looking for a good wool blanket for my 72 hour kit. Any of you guys have a good suggestion?

If you're cheap (like me!) you may want to look for some foreign military surplus new wool blankets. I've seen them at good prices in the Sportsman's Guide catalogs I think. They have several versions of their catalog that you can request, including one for international military surplus called HQ. You have to be careful about ordering anything that's described as "military style" as it's probably going to be imported junk. Always read the fine print! Sort through the junk to find the good stuff. It's there.

I've bought a few surplus military blankets that are thick, soft, and durable. The British blanket is OK, plenty large but a bit coarse. Another that I've had for years (forget from where) is soft and very thick but too small to wrap around, made for a short person's cot. The third is very nice - warm, large, and soft. I don't recall where it's from, but it's gray with wide black bands.

edited to add: I don't see any at Sportsmans Guide currently. But Cheaper than Dirt has two in stock, one German and one Italian. The German blanket may be the same as the gray one I mentioned above.
