Lowdown on Kershaw camp axe?

If you mean the one that is about 19 inches long, some love em and others hate em. It fills the gap between a hatchet and a hudson bay. You can get two hands on it but it feels a little cramped. And, if you one hand it like a hatchet it a little unwieldy. With this being said I like them. It will fit inside of a small or medium pack. They frequently sell on ebay for a good price, especially if you are willing to accept a used one. The profile is about like a saber grind on a knife. You can easily put a super sharp edge on it, but care must be taken on what you hit due to the hardness - it is a little brittle.

Over the weekend I happened to think of some other points. The head is differentially heat treated so that you have a softer poll for pounding. There are two sheath systems found on these. One is a well made nylon/cordora sheath with a belt loop and a hanging loop. The other is a snap on plastic sheath with a carrying handle. The former is by far the better of the two. You will want to take a few minutes and remove all the flashing from the handle molding process. It is sharp enough to slice your hand. And lastly, I believe these are now available with a large saw that fits in the handle. Hope this helps.
