What the H*LL does this have to do with Khukuris? well if you pay with plastic, everything! I read in Consumer Reports recently that you can often get your credit card co. to lower their interest rates just by asking them! I said "yeah, right". But it worked! I called up and said I'd been getting offers in the mail for low rates and I could afford my company's 17.9% rate anymore, and would they be willing to compete? They lowered our 2 cards to 12.9% just like that:)

Try it you might be surprised. And then you can really say "Debt is Good"!:D:D

Almost everything is negotiable. If you can swing it best bet is pay off the credit cards every month -- no interest. Even though I'm fully aware of sainted Uncle Lou's sage advice regarding dept and success and know how wonderful a lot of debt can be I still pay the credit cards in full each month so I have no interest to pay. So, I don't care if it's 1% or 50%. They don't get anything from me but they do make me pay an annual fee of 20 or 30 bucks.

I have also found that the credit card companies will very easily raise your credit limits if you mention the competition.

I called and told VISA that MasterCard had raised my limit substantially (from $15k to $25k) they agreed to do the same thing! Well, I had told MC the same thing about VISA to get them to do that.

Also some companies offer a very low APR if you transfer balance from another credit card comapany. Then call the company that you transferred from and tell them what happened.

It also seems to help to pay off all but a small amount each month, the credit card companies are in business to make interest off us as well as a surcharge to the seller. I think that they put you in a different category if you pay off entirely each month than if you leave a tiny balance and the interest on $15 ain't much.

It is a lot of fun and surprising the benefits you can grab just by asking!

I've been expecting them to threaten to cancel my cards because they earn no interest from them but so far they have left me alone -- maybe it's the annual fee that saves me. Many card companies don't charge that.

I have one CC. It is a USAA Visa and they always charge me 9-10%! That is a good rate and USAA I think is one of the last fair and great insurance companys out there!:)

I've used this for years :D Hold one end of card firmly in vise grips....move other end slowly into flame from propane torch. No rates, fees or 'phone calls. The stench can easily be passed off as the sweet smell of success:rolleyes:

I'm with you Uncle. I never pay interest. Also I never pay an annual fee. There are plenty of card issuers that offer no annual fee. They make their money off the purchases you make. They charge the merchant 2% to 4% or more depending on volume and the deal. Same way PayPal makes their dough. As far as credit line goes, they'll give you the sky if you ask. :)

Who wants to pay 15 or 20 percent when the bank's giving you 2.5 on your CD? It's a one way street with the money people.

Amen.

It might even be becoming obvious to all soon.
Let's hope so. And Wal's method gives those who need it a tangible whiff of protest. :) Maybe it's just my state, but they seem to call first before sending the unwanted card. And I give 'em H***.
Those that persist ask what balance I carry over to the next month. When I tell 'em zero, they seem to lose interest. What a racket.
