Lowes clearancing their knives, including some SAK's

If anybody is interested, Lowes stores are clearancing the knives sold in their knife display cases. They are going to blister packed knives only, no more boxed knives. Mainly Case Knives, but they carry two or three Victorinox SAK's and usually a Swisstool model. The Lowes in SC have been running clearances for about two or three weeks, but it seems to be an individual store or market area decision on the timing. Once the knives go to some type of "dead stock" status, they are marked down and cleared out as fast as the store manager can move them, usually a 50% markdown. I bought $2,000.00 worth of Case knives and Vic's for $1,000.00. About half are going into my collection, the others will be sold at my local gunshow, hopefully I can come reasonably close to paying for the ones I keep. :D

Anyway, check your local Lowes, this is a nationwide change and all the Lowes will eventually get rid of their old wooden knife display cases and boxed stock.

I just got back from my local Lowes store and the usual knife display is indeed gone. After an exhaustive search, I found the packaged Case "leftovers" in a dark corner of the tool department. They must have gotten rid of all the boxed knives already :(

Same here...display case is gone...a few Victorinox SAKs and Case in the clamshell packs on an endcap/side display. I think they used to sell some SAKs in the case as well. I think they sold the Swiss Champ and a few others in the same display with Case and then they had other SAKs and Gerber Multi's in the blister packs on the sides.

The Lowes by me is a newer one opening a few months ago (I think) and they've never had a case, only a crappy end of aisle rack with a few knives :thumbdn:

I am in the Fort Worth,TX area and went to a Lowes this morning and got me a Swiss Champ for 28.00 and a Tinker for 18.00

They had more of them and also a Swiss tool for about 24.00 on clearance

Thanks
Gregg

I was at the Lowe's in Springfield, MO about a month and a half ago and bought a Vic Recruit packaged with a Maglite Mini Mag AAA flashlight on clearance for $8.43. They were in a blister pack and the Recruit by itself hanging on the next peg was $12.50 regular price. Go figure. I was back in there last weekend and they had the whole wood display case on clearance including a Swiss Tool for $38. I might go back next weekend and see if they have dropped the price on the Swiss Tool more.

It looks like Bass Pro Shops is going to be the only retailer in the area to carry a good selection of knives .

I'm going to hit mine tomorrow, hope I find something left.

I guess it's a cost/space savings plan. Sure takes the fun and neat factor out of buying a knife. Also, you need a knife to get into that freaking plastic!

Also, bad since you can't really see the knife till it's out of that freaking plastic shell from hell.

Oh well, progress.

On Saturday (Oct. 29th), I was able to walk away from my local Lowe's with two Victorinox SwissTools, priced at $30 apiece.

Thanks for a great tip, Slufstuff!

Darn...my local Lowe's appears to be clearing out their stock, but nothing was on sale. $30 for the Swisstool is an excellent deal.

I kinda wanted a Midnight Manager...but it was still listed at $25.

Well its another sad incident in the knife world.........up in Canada its even rarer to find knives in our Hardware stores.........I'm going to miss that display of Case knives in my nearest Lowes

I'd suggest checking-out your Lowe's again. There weren't any sale prices on any of the knife or multitool displays in the store, but the majority of those were blister-packed. Slufstuff said that Lowe's is moving to blister-packs/clamshell packs away from boxed knives and multitools.

I found my SwissTools when I saw a SwissTool in a glass-enclosed display door that was like 9/10 empty, that apparently was the door to the cabinet where the boxed Case, Gerber, and Victorinox knives and multitools were stored. The display door was just leaning up against the back of the Hardware counter. The Hardware Department Manager suggested that I could get the SwissTool for $30, so I asked if I could buy the two he had for $30 each...when I'd been pretty happy to see (and pay) the original $54.98 price! ;)

CV......no Lowe's in Canada but I have been to the Bellingham U.S store a number of times.............sad to hear the large dsplay gone....they used to have a fair selection of SAK's,Gerbers and a very decent selection of Case products from the Sodbuster to the Russlock to special Editions....
