I am trying to find out what the lowest possible angle I can go on zt'S elmax is. This is purely a show off knife. Trying to get to HHT5 level with it if it is even possible with this steel

If you only want to cut hair, you won't be limited by elmax. Not sure which ZT you're working with, but you could get some pretty exciting results with a zero grind.

This is with a 560. You are talking about grinding it from the primary bevel all the way down to the cutting edge right with no secondary bevel?

Yeah that's what he's talking about, however it would be extremely difficult to get a hht5 from a zero grind imho. I would instead probably take it to 8 dps with a 10 dps microbevel that is as highly refined as you can go. This should get you there. I think I've only ever gotten hht4 even on a straight razor which is quite a comfortable shave (hht isn't the only thing that determines closeness or comfort of shave though, certainly).

The knife is at a HHT4 now with a convex edge stroped to .01m.
12 degree per side is about the lowest I could go on the kme. Just not sure yet whether I want to take it there or try to salvage the blade to like a 17 degree in case I want to edc it one day

I took a 3cr knife (kabar snody administrator) to like 7 dps with a 15 dps ish micro and it was fine until I had to slip it under some plastic banding and twist to cut, it got 2 good sized chips then. Previous to that, it cut whittled and sliced everything I needed it to and stayed that sharp (treetopping) for about 3 weeks of edu with some cardboard, lots of plastic, wood, food, and lots of Dr pepper boxes. I drink lots of Dr pepper, and hack up the boxes to fit in the trash. This was the only knife I used.

I say leave it at that and if you damage the edge from EDC use than go ahead and add a microbevel and see how that goes.

I'd keep it at 12 dps where it's at... Especially if you already have it at hht4 then you're honestly not going to notice that much of a difference at hht5 😀 And as Bob said, you can throw a microbevel on if you will be using it harder. great job! 👍

Right now the cutting edge sits at probably around 20dps. At least that is the angle it starts cutting the strop at. Could be less. Was really wanting a more easily maintained edge but may not do anything...hmm...what to do
