Hey team, Just got a genesis and love it but don't really understand the need for the little nub on the fingerguard. I'm weighing up filing it off and rounding it over. I like being able to choke up right next to the blade for feathersticks etc and this would give a nice spot for the index finger while keeping a functional fingerguard. Thoughts?

Hey team,

"team"? 🤨

Just got a genesis and love it but don't really understand the need for the little nub on the fingerguard. I'm weighing up filing it off and rounding it over. I like being able to choke up right next to the blade for feathersticks etc and this would give a nice spot for the index finger while keeping a functional fingerguard. Thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the knife. I'm looking at pictures of an LT Wright Genesis Scandi trying to figure out what you mean exactly. I don't see an extra "nub" on the finger guard anywhere. If you filed that part off, then you could choke farther up but then you wouldn't have a functional finger guard on the handle anymore. Are you talking about just making it more rounded? Maybe taking a little slice off the tip of it?

Please post a picture of the exact part that you're talking about removing. Draw on the image if you have to.

My personal opinion is that I wouldn't spend a couple hundred bucks on a hand made knife only to modify it and potentially destroy its trade or resale value, but it's your dime. Do whatever you want.

Doesn't matter. I think I figured out what you mean. You just want to decrease how much it sticks out so that you can slide your finger past it more easily. Right?

I wouldn't do it. Once you take material off then you can't put it back. If you go too far, then that's it. Rather than modifying it, I'd try returning the knife if you don't like it. Where did you buy it from? Are you still within the return window?

I know that there are way more expensive knives, but to me, a couple hundred bucks is a lot of money to spend on something you're just going to modify. Spend that money on something that's more to your needs/wants.

You have to load your image onto a hosting site such as Imgur or post image. Then you copy the image link and bring it over here and paste it into the little insert image box. You can find more details down in the Tech support section.
