I have a couple of electric fans that have started squeaking. I'm opposed to the whole idea of throwing everything away and buying new instead of fixing it; that's what's destroying our environment, so I want to take them apart and relube them. What kind of grease should I use?

I assume they are sleeve bearings and not ball bearings. 3-1 oil is probably suffienct, or militec, it's probably not critical for fans.

Please don't use 3 in 1 oil , unless they've changed the formula it has no antioxidents and will oxidize and form a varnish quickly.A light machine oil will do well.

Ah, and I suggest not using WD40 as it gets sticky too. Now that I think about it the last time I lubed a fan I used Break Free CLP, seemed to work fine.

For some reason I thought it would be greased, but I got one apart and you guys are right, it's oiled. I have plenty of RemOil on hand so I'm using that.
