Been loving my Code 4 the past few weeks. Someone on this forum said that knife is bigger than you think...which is quite true...but what a great knife.

Anyway, I've noticed the first 1/16" or so of blade travel when I go to open it, it feels kinda rough like metal on metal. I dropped some Daewa reel oil onto the part of the blade that contacts the bottom of the lock bar as it opens and closes, but that doesn't seem to have had much of an effect.

Is there another spot I need to concentrate on? Thanks.

The looseness is most likely not due to the contact between the lockbar and the blade, but rather the lockbar and the handle & stopping that's stopping it from dropping fully. Try to put some oil between the lockbar and the scale/stop pin. Also loosening up the pivot may help a little bit, you can tighten it back when it has broken in.
It's weird that it's happening to your Code 4 as i usually see this on the G-10 models. Did you have the old aus8a model or the new XHP?

It's the XHP model. I'll try dropping some oil between the stop pin and the lock bar. Thank you.

This is common with the Tri-ad lock. The upward arc beneath the pivot pin is where the locking lug rests when the the knife is closed. This area is ground rougher than rest of the blade's heel. This why it's only rough when the blade is 1st opened. Once the lug cams off this rougher area and onto the smoother radial arc, the rest of the opening is smooth.

I have 5 Cold Steel folders that, to varying degrees, are all like this. It will not hurt anything and will smooth out with use. If it bugs you, you could sand that area smooth. Oil will help very little, if at all.

Thank you. That section is exactly where I was focusing my oiling efforts and you're right, it did very little to help. As long as it's not hurting anything, all good.
