Hi all. I'm hooked....... again! Just got my first two CRs. A large sebie 21 RH blue stud, and an Umnunzaan that blows me away. All from knivesshipfree.com. No charge for shipping on anything. Nice selection of first rate stuff. Derrick and Wendy are A+ folks. Just ordered a CR Pacific and a Spartan NYX from them today.

Anyway, question to all you CR veterans. Is it necessary to ALWAYS take apart a sebenza and Uzaam to lube the pivot? Will a drop or two of Tuf Glide around the washers not get where it needs to be to do any good?

I had no idea how perfectly beautifully made these folders are. Not am uneven grind line, or uneven edge or point grind ANYWHERE. Lock up like a vault. Just lovely work. I'm hooked. I'm in for more. Can't wait for that Pacific to arrive later this week. I'm doomed AGAIN!!

Thanks for any lube advice to you all,

It has been debated a lot. Some feel it is not even necessary for lube on a Sebenza. I have gone without lube and it is just as smooth. It comes down to you. Lube it for a while, take it apart, clean and see if you like it without lube. You will see what you like best.

The Umnu. I don't know, do not have one but maybe take the same approach?

:thumbup: That is where the quality comes in and justifies the price for me!

Thanks marthius. The THUNK of the Ummumzaan locking up is like nothing I've experienced before. No metallic click, just a very quiet rock solid lock up thunk. Maybe the shock absorbers on the studs? I don't know, but it's truly an asset. Great for military, police, or civilian use where steath and silience is needed. Quite a package, but I love that Sebenza too.

keep em sharp!

One thing to note is that you don't have to take the entire knife apart to lube a Sebenza. Just remove the blade pivot screw, and the whole blade assembly will simply slide out. Just wipe down the washers and pivot bushing, put everything back together, and the whole package will slide back in, easy as pie. Pretty impressive. Those are some tight tolerances!

Take it apart and lube it from time to time.............

It's good therapy :D

Did you check out the Chris Reeve Website?

Chris Reeve Knives Fluorinated Grease. Specially formulated for use on all high friction areas of precision folding knives and guns, i.e., pivot bearings, locking bars and slides. Comes with rotating cap to seal tube and prevent leakage.

A little dab will do ya....

Thanks all for the helpful info. Found a couple of videos on this subject. Looks pretty easy. Will use it awhile and strip her down.

I contacted CR today and was told an Umnumzaan pivot tool is in the works and to get back to them in a month or two.

I've come to the conclusion that I like a high-pressure grease/lube for my knife pivots. It seems to both smooth them out and make them easier to open/close.

Here in Australia I bought some high pressure food-safe grease and have been changing all my folders over to this at their next lube.

Previously I have used a wide variety of products (a VERY WIDE variety--after all I am knife-knut and have to use the BEST :D).
