So does anyone have a favorite portable way to bring a small amount of oil with them?

What kind do you use, how do you bring it with you?

You could try getting a sample of Militec-1 off their site (if they still are doing that). They're very small and lightweight.

hey I am going to see if they will send me a box so I can send these samples to iraq. We make care packages to go out all the time! Thanks for the idea!

i just bought one of those silicone gun wipes that you find in the gun cleaning supplies, it just a piece of cloth soaked with silicone , i used it on my rifle when i hunted for two weeks in alaska and the blue steel held up as long as i kept wiping it down every night.

I carry a cloth with the center soaked in oil.

Don't bother with militec as a rust inhibitor, it's a lubricant, and that's about all it's good for.

I'm glad you told me that.

What would one us for a rust inhibitor, besides wd-40 (I know its just a water displacement fluid deal)

FP-10, Breakfree or any mil-spec CLP, Ballistol, Tuff Glide/cloth, and Rem oil in my experience has been fairly good. If it's just a rust inhibitor (as opposed to folder lubricant) a silicone rag would work fine too in most cases. The only issue with Breakfree/Mil-spec CLPs is that unless they've changed the formula recently (which I think they have) they still have to be shaken before use, it shouldn't be a big deal, the rust inhibitors should be in suspension all the time, I'm pretty sure the sediment is just the solid ptfe for lubrication.
