Ran out of WD40 which I normall to lube my lansky kit stones when doing a quick sharpening. Used what I had on hand just out of chance and it is contact cleaner and lubricant from radio shack. Stuff is kind of hard not to make it go all over the place when spraying it on your hones but it works the BEST of anything I have found to date. Keeps the stones nice and clean helps it cut like crazy. I am now the owner of the sharpest CQC11 on the planet bar none. Just passing along what I found out by accident or serendipitously. keepem sharp:thumbup:

Hmmm, thanks for sharing that, I like to dry sharpen my knives, but I know there are tons of different oil based lubes specifically sold for sharpenign stones, I wonder if they work any better than regular old stuff like you used...

Many makers recommend a tooling fluid called CoolTool II for use during hand sanding. They say that it cuts the sanding time by 1/3 and makes the sandpaper last longer. I've seen it at Ace and TrueValue. It may work just as well for sharpening.
