Lubricant Recommendation

For anyone who hasn't tried them, I highly recommend the Mil-Comm family of lubricants. They work exceptionally well for knives. Most of them are non-toxic, as well. The cleaner is water-based, non-toxic, safe for most finishes, and doesn't stink. Just thought I'd throw this out there. I used them for my guns and knives both, and I don't think I've ever found a better product, or family of products. They're worth checking out.

What's the price range? I have always used Breakfree CLP figuring initially that if it was good for our military small arms it was good enough for me. It costs about $30/gallon or about $5 for the 4 oz bottle and is available at most gun stores and sporting goods stores. I have used it successfully on target shotgun (very high use) and knives for over a dozen years.

I have heard good things about Mil-Tech but wonder why it didn't pass the governmental tests. I haven't really researched it though so any info would be appreciated.

Don't get Mil-Comm confused with Mil-Tech. Two totally different products. I particularly like the TW-25B, which is a lubricant paste, rather than a liquid. It's expensive, but a little goes a long long way. Just go to milcomm.com.

Gotcha! I'll check out mil-comm. The review I posted didn't show very good results with miltec1 which is what I thought you were referring to. Of course a spray of salt water on metal is a very rough test.
