what is a good type of lubricant to use on my spyderco's??? i need something general (not specialized) for i live in the city and not able to get to specialized stores..please help

3-in-1 oil works great, and you can get it anywhere. also, try http://www.militec.com/ for militec-1. works even better, and you don't have to go to any store, just order online. (whatever you do, don't use wd-40, it's not good for this purpose.)

I'll second the vote for Miltec works great (WD40 does a good job of cleaning blades) :D :D

right. wd-40 is great to "blast" out your knives, taking gunk and moisture with it, but just don't use it to lube alone, as it will not perform very well.

You can also get free samples on miltec's website. New graham carries it. You may be able to find retailers on Miltec's site -- I don't know.

Break free CLP should be fairly easy to find locally. If you're willing to order online, or perhaps do some hunting around to see if you can find it where you are, try Shooter's choice FP-10 lubricant elite, also available directly from the manufacturer as MPC FP-10. I don't like militec much anymore, it has no corrosion protection at all, and FP-10 seems to work better as a lubricant on most of my knives.

Militec did not work for me - it actually make it worse in my case. As well as White Lighting etc.

Thanks, Vassili.

I'm glad you took it well Vassili. Making (a little) fun of someone's name is always a questionable comedic move. ;)

I was using oils but they stained my clothing. I started using a toothpick with Vaseline on the tip to put it just where it is needed. It works great for me and no more stained pockets from oil. (I know Vaseline is a petroleum based product but it washes out easily.) If I am going to store my knife I would put Militec on it tho just to play it safe.

The trick with oils is to use way less than you think you need. 1 drop really is all it takes, one small drop, very small. Assuming you haven't used too much the oil will stay where it's put, and won't run at all.

I've been having good luck with Eezox CLP Type aerosol. It has worked wonders on my folders and firearms, but does a good job at not attracting dirt.Does a good job at resisting rust.
I also like Tuff Glide lubricant/tuff cloth combo, but not the high price for such a tiny bottle.

Hmm.. Did you heat the pivot up before and after applying the militec?
Just 1 drop, wipe off the excess after opening and closing several times. Heat with a hair dryer.

Worked for me.

It's twoo, it's twoo.

When needed, I blast out pocket lint with compressed air then I use Tufglide for the pivots and a Tufcloth for the blade, works for me! I also use Armorall wipes for G-10 scales, lasts about a week, no stains on clothing from any of the above if I let it dry for about 24 hours. Cheers, Rob
